Got back today and the 53 gn vmax shot excellent..will be one of my "go to" bullets of choice using varget.
Good deal, varget was showing some real promise for me, still kinda curios but as well as Biggame is shooting, not sure I'll ever put varget through it's paces
Gotta love Varget . I shoot Varget in my .308 Wins. (2), .220 Swift, .22-250 Rem, and 6mm Int.
But pertaining to the subject... I shoot the Savage 12 LRPV in 22-250 1:12" (probably my favorite all-around gun, but heavy), and I haven't tried the 53 gr. V-Maxes out of it yet, but I shoot them out of my .222 Rem (1:14", and ~2850 FPS) and they're fine. I'm still shootin' (out of the 250) 52 gr. Berger HPFBs out to 750 yds. with no problem (other than wind lol). Vertical dispersion is usually about 4" and once in a while I'll get 5 - 6". Unfortunately I live in NJ, and haven't found a place to push past that...
Yeah you do love varget huh?... Its a couple bucks more than the other powders but IMO worth the performance & consistency. Get ya a HS precision or similar for that LRPV and shed a few pounds if you can.
As far as new bullets I just got a box of berger FB match varmint 64 gn that Ive loaded up to test out. So far my "go to" load is 35-35.5 of varget with those sweet nasty little 53gn Vmax's. Hoepfully this will turn into my windy day bullet.
nice lookin rig. how does the the barrel dampner do for tightening up groups?Yeah, my gun came with the H-S stock, but still weighs around 16 lbs... With the group sizes I'm shooting, I can't MAKE myself switch bullets . I do shoot the 250 as far as I can, but if it's windy I'll jump to the 220 Swift (52 gr. SMK HPBT @ 3751 fps), 6mm (69 gr. high BC Bergers), or my 7mm (100 gr. Hornady HPFBs , NJ legal...), for the added BC edge. You're probably gonna make me try the 53 gr. tho lol.

Oh yeah.. of course its got the HS on it...I was thinkin in my head of the VLP model.....thats a stout rig...yessssss. tryyyyyyyyyy the Vmax 53s..they're cheap here and easy to get..@ $18.50/ per 100
