Want to get into long range shooting. Have read a lot of good things about the Savage .300WM. Want a gun that has little recoil that is fun to shoot. Also that I can shoot to 500+ yds accurately. Any suggestions or know anyone that has one? And looking to buy a mil dot scope for it. Also any suggestions. Thanks

It depends on how far past 500 yards you are wanting to shoot, and what you would like to shoot. The 300wm will work very well at twice that distance, and further. If you are concerned about recoil and want a gun you can shoot all day long, there are many cartridges that will shoot 500+ yards and be much easier on the shoulder.
What do you want to shoot?
No experience with the Savage LRH, but several discussions have been had about that rifle...you should be able to find them via a forum search.

For that range, a Savage 10 FCP in 0.308 win will do nicely. I recently went down to that from a 300 WM and couldn't be happier. Much cheaper and broader range of ammo, lighter recoil and I can actually see my hits past 200 yards. I make hits at 1000 meters regularly, though of course a 300 WM would be something to consider more for that range. Just look at the ballistics of the Hornady 178 BTHP Superformance load and tell me it will not do well at your ranges. 0.5 inch groups and less in the Savage 10 FCP, great performance.

My son-in-law has the LRH in .300WM topped with a MK4M3 Leupold Mildots and all. It's certainly a fine shooting rifle and was easy to find a load for. As far as the recoil, I have no idea as I haven't shot it. Hopefully he will see this post and chime in. I will say that he seems to like it a lot and is rapidly progressing in his shooting skill. I have an M10 in .300WSM with an identical scope and while the recoil is not obnoxious it is certainly noticeable, at 8.4 pounds it is nice to carry though. A muzzle brake is probably going to be added at some point so I can get back on target a bit quicker.
Not trying to dissuade you from getting a new rifle but the .270 will kill elk quite handily with correct bullet selection and placement.
