Savage 22-250 groups?

I have a Savage 22-250 11 fcns 22" sporter barrel with a 4-16 monarch on top, caldwell bi pod. i can seem to get 1" groups at 100 and obviously cant get 3" groups at 300 its close but not what i think it should. shot 50-55 hornadys, 55 rem core loked and get about the same results.... any ideas are welcome, dont like the idea of moly but hear it can help groups?? Not into reloading so thats outta the question

Could be several different reasons for the group sizes, but you might give the barrel bedding a check. I got a Savage Predator in 22-250 that had the groups shrink down from 1" to .25" with factory 55gr factory V-Max after I relieved a couple of spots where the barrel was making contact with the stock. Some sandpaper fixed the problem. A couple of my buddies had the same problem with their Savages. You also may want to test for your grouping using a solid rest instead of the bipod. Depending on your set-up, the bipod used with a lighter rifle can take some time to master for achieving maximum accuracy. I don't think moly coated bullets would solve your problem.

Don't shoot moly... Not worth it. What shape are the groups, vertical, horizontal, or round?

alittle fouling helped quite a bit. 50 grains were spred vertical and my 55 were decent enough triangles

Is this at 100 and 300? Or only one range and then they string at the other?

the 50s only start doin that past 300 the 55 seem to be more consistatant groups out to 400. past that it has to be still for me to think about shooting it plus the slightest miss reading of the wind and who knows where its goin

It sounds like ammo related, have you tried any HSM or Black Hills ammo? You could try the Rem UMC HPFB, too. You might be able to tweak the rifle too, but it might get involved lol, bedding etc.

I've gone up to 60 grain AMAXES and H 4895 powder. Also bullet length is extended to just goosing the rifle lands.

He difinetly could get an accuracy load if he handloaded... He is shooting factory only though, and doesn't sound like he is gonna handload...

Good point though. My accuracy is from 52 gr. Bergers, and Varget, in Lapua brass and CCI BR2 primers. 0.020" off the lands.

Thanks for the good word. Unfortunately it's a spare time thing and I haven't done as much to it as I'd like..., but I tried to make it decent. Anything else you wanna kno, pm me.

Make sure everything is tight as well, bases rings and stock. I've had 3 Savages that the front action screw has been loose on. As mentioned earlier make sure the barrel if free floated as well.
