Ok so I ordered a 30 Cal Kreiger ,in varmit contour, blank about 2 months ago. It is now shipping my way so I have to figure out what to build. If you could build any 30 cal what would it be and how long of a finished length. I Have a 2-300wm/1-300WSM and 2-308s so Im thinking maybe another 300wsm. Oh and I reload so wildcats arent and issue. Please help me decide.

I second that.

Search for Elkaholic's thread on the 30-375 SI (Sherman Improved).

That is what I would build if I had the opportunity.

Do you have an action to use yet? If not.....:D Why not go real big with the 300 Norma Improved? Sounds fun, Haven't seen a lot of them & that cartridge screams sexy....

No action yet either so I could do the Norma but what action would I need and who could build it

What about the 300 rum. I was looking at the ballistics and it's pretty hard to beat and it would be easier to find components.

Which 30 caliber has the best balance between ballistics, velocity, brass life, (efficient case-BURNS LEAST POWDER), brass availabilty/durability and least reloading effort, per net cost of shooring a round? RUM, NORMA,WIN,DAKOTA, WEATHERBY, H&H?

Here's a post from another sight from an accomplished shooter, probably where I'd start my research if I build a 300 cal.

260 shooter,

Hey!

Getting ready to build a .300 Norma mag myself reamer is on the way. It will shoot and barrel life should be close to the Hulk at about 2000-3000 rounds of pin point accuracy. This cartridge will shoot out to one-mile no problem with 208's and or 240's.
Retumbo or H-1000 will do the trick with about 82-85 grs. with 240's and 88- 90 grns. with 208's - 210's. Velocitys will be around 3100-3200 with 208-210 and 2900 plus with 240's.
Barrel life is greatly misunderstood with most rifles. 1000 yard BR proves it a bunch.

Hope to see you and your daughter again soon!

Tom

I'd be willing to guess he has some 30 cal experience.

Defiance makes actions that will work, so does BAT, the last one I got to see was on a 1.550" receiver BAT w/30" BBL.

Besides... who else on here is shooting a 300 Norma Improved??? :D Anybody? That alone makes me feel all vroom-vroom lol

Nate Dagley is building me one right now.

300 Rum. I have both it and the 300wm and love them both but the Rum for long range shooting is spectacularly superior.

There are some bigger, badder, kooler wildcat 30's along with the 300 Wby, but all things considered the Rum was my choice and I'll never regret it.
