Velocity 185 Berger 30-06

I know there is quite a few threads on this but what can I expect as far as velocity driving 168's,175,180,185, and 190 grain bullets out of a 30-06 with a 26" barrel 1-10 twist? I thought maybe some of the results have changed with some of the new powders available now?

I shot some 180 noslers at 2975' with a 26" barrel B-78 with a 12 twist. The load was 58 grains of H4350 and was pretty hot......Rich

Do you think it would be worth it to go 30-06 improved of some sort? How much gain in velocity would I get with bullets in the 175-210 range?

My current load using 24" barrel 30-06 with 185 vld is 57grs H4350. getting 2820fps.I can load a little higher,but ill kill brass fast. I also have another load using 208 amax under hunter powered,getting 2710fps. I have only shot the 185 to 1K and did great.

My 300 Sherman case is basically that. I can get 3050'+ with 190 grain bullets in a 28" barrel. I've fired 150's at 3500'. 180's will make 3150+........Rich

In a 24" barrel I get 2821 avg vel with 185 OTMs and 57grns Imr 4350 in win brass, also 3015 with 168s and 59.5grns H4350 in win brass, and 175 noslers I get 2910 with 58.5grns H4350. Expect 20-35 fps more with your 26" barrel.

It is based on a .270 length case with less body taper than the A.I. and the shoulder moved forward cosiderably, but still has a .317" neck. Case capacity is approx. 77 grains of H20, depending on brand.........rich

So would I be able to just ream out a 30-06 chamber to 300 sherman without setting the barrel back? Do you have any side by side pictures of it with the 30-06?

Yes, you should be able to just set it back. I have side by side with the .270 and I could take one with an '06 if you like......Rich
