I was wondering if anybody has notice that some factory ammo velocity is somewhat slower then advertised. I bought some HMS 264 win Mag trophy gold extended range ammo and fired a few rounds and I chrony it at 2,760 fps. Remington was not much better its velocity were 2,848 fps. Winchester factory 140 gr 3,180 fps. I sure was disappointed on the HMS ammo.

I believe the advertised MV are an average from a 26" barrel. Temperature, and difference of length in barrel will affect the velocity. What are you shooting with?

Way too many factors for them to make accurate predictions. Some try to keep numbers close to average for typical usage, some inflate them for sales purposes. Either way, matching printed velocities would be rare. Just gotta test 'em in your rifle.

When you posted that my heart SUNKED I was so ready to try some HMS stuff, but will not simply because I know I won't get much either with my Broughton 26incher........did try the winchester stuff and it did shoot under a inch guess I'll stick to that if I need some ammo to hunt with in a hurry...........
