My local Bass Pro has 4 "left over" new SHR 970's, four with wood stocks: .243, 7mm Rem mag, .308, and a .300 Win mag marked at 50% off retail. The one that caught my eye is the "Match Rifle" in .300 Win mag with a synthetic black stock and fluted barrel. Its original price was $1995 and is reduced to $1195 so not 50% off as are the others. Being a "good customer" he said he would knock another $100 off. My questions are: they used to be part of the Sig family but are no longer imported... what is your experience with these rifles in general? Does anyone have experience with this "match rifle" (not to be confused with the tactical model with the Mac Millan (sp?) stock)? Are these good prices? Any responses will be appreciated.

I would love to have the 243 and 308, do you think they still have them?..can you give mea phone number?

Last time I was at the Fine Gun Room here in the Denver, CO area was about one month ago. Everything but the 300 Win Mag had been sold. I don,t have their phone number but I'm sure it's available on the Bass Pro web site home page.

Actually I called them today and I believe they still had 30.06, 7MM Win Mag and 300 Win Mag. I purchased the 300 Win Mag with wood stock.

This will be my first Swiss Arms. I have been looking around online and have found only favorable comments.

Congratulations on your purchase! The rifles they originally had had been allegedly purchased by lot "relatively recently". I've no idea from whom. I can recall seeing them for the past two or three years and then in the fall, they decided to have a Swiss Arms clearance. As mentioned in the original post, there were several rifles that were sold leaving only the 300 Win Mag match rifle. I suspect the market was better here in Colorado so perhaps the other Bass Pro Fine Gun Rooms sent their inventory to our store. Sadly, Bass Pro had closed several of their Fine Gun Rooms over the past couple of years concentrating their efforts and products in a few of their stores. When I originally saw the rifles i thought I would check out info on the internet. Seemingly, the brand is very popular in Europe and Canada and, I might add, enjoyed glowing reports of craftsmanship and accuracy! The only negative I ever saw was the lack of support should one need parts and that was only amongst shooters here in the States. Of all the rifles I've ever owned that needed something it was a new Sauer 243 with the fluted heavy barrel which failed to fire on my first outing. Go figure... it had a broken firing pin! Well I guess poo happens! Hope you have good fortune with your new rifle and send many a round down range with superb accuracy. Keep us posted how she shoots! I might just drive over to Bass Pro tomorrow and see if they still have that 300 Win Mag match rifle.
All the best!
