How many Mils would it take to get to 800 yards with a 308?I am trying to figure out if I will be able to use holdover with a Mil reticle up to 8 mils to get me out to 800 yards +- I understand MOA ALOT better than Mils but Mils seem more precise except when it comes to holdover. The only reason I am preferring the MRAD over the MOA reticle is because of the 1/2 mil hash marks. If the MOA reticle had the half MOA hashmarks or went in 1 MOA increments I would be ALLLLLL over that scope instead

The PST 4-16 has 21 mils of adjustment. Based on a 0 moa base, you "should" be zeroed around the center of the adjustment range. That "should" leave you with 10.5 mils adjustment.

1 mil = 3.6 moa

3.6 moa x 10.5 = 37.8 moa

How many MOA to reach a grand for your rifle?

The scope will be sufficient if you buy a 20moa base.

Now, if you are going mil/mil ffp, do exactly as I was told. STOP THINKING IN MOA. :D

Does that help?

Thank you for the info, If I can get to 800 yds I will be perfectly happy, now with that being said, could I use the reticle subtensions and the turret to make up the difference to get to 800 maybe more?

Absolutely you can use the substentions (hold-over) and Elev adjustment to get it done. Another note, with Mil turret adjustments data documented, you will have your exact hold-overs as well on the Mil hashmark substentions. Just remember that in 2nd focal plane scopes, your power setting will affect hold-overs, it will not affect the center crosshair. This can be a plus as well depending on your needs.
