Wildcat Bullets Update

Wildcat,

I have the reamer for the 300 AM, just give me the go ahead and we will get started. Will take a bit of time to get the dies made but we can do it!!!

Here are a couple pictures of your 7mm AM. Tide you over until the new dies get here and I can ship the rifle to you.

Keep at it!!

Can't wait.

Do you have any pics of a 169.5 in a 270WSM around or even just a pic of that bullet next to a common .277 bullet? I've got a Lawton 1-9 twist and a reamer sitting here waiting patiently, I have another barrel I can shoot out while I wait for your bullets, that's the only thing keeping me from going crazy! :D

Eaglet,

I would be very suprised if the 247 gr AT needed more then a 1-8 twist...

Take care old friend!!!!

Kirby,

My friend, as always, great post and very informative.

I was glad to see you posting.

I was playing with the "Greenhill Method" and the "Miller method". According to the Greenhill, with 8:1 twist would stabilize it and according to the Miller Method it would not. The newer method, the "Miller Method" is more popular and to my understanding most used.

With all that said, the last word is the field testing, which is the real thing and that is exactly what you've done. That'd be more valid than anything else IMO.

Thanks for posting and take care of your self and loved ones.

Here's a picture of the bullets loaded in a 270 wsm. Sorry but I don't have any other 270 bullets to compare them to. These are the only ones I shoot now.

I have some of Richards old 169.5 .277 bullets and they shoot great out of my wife's new 270 wsm built by kriby I get right at 3000fps

Good to hear Paul, but still waiting on that 169.5g 6.5mm bullet we keep discussing! I decided I'm going to wait on this build for them or close. I'm going to be building a .338 Norma until then. :D

What FPS are you getting with these 169.5 (.720 BC?) bullets in a 270 wsm and in what barel length? I was looking at rebarreling a 300 wsm into a 7mm saum but after running the numbers at what a wildcat bulet would do in a 270 wsm at 2850 there is no comparision. From what I have found the 270 wsm with wildcats is substantially better than the 7 saum with 140 gr accubonds, and the 270 wsm even edges out the saum with 140 gr accubonds. Now I have a tough choice. Also if I do plan on building this rifle is there any need to have the barrel reamed to allow the bullet to have a longer COAL? This will be on a long action so thats not a problem. Thanks Im sure Ill have more questions. Kirby I know you're busy so if you have time what do you think, 270 wsm using either a 140 nosler AB or wildcat or 7 SAUM? I will hunting deer and black bear with this rifle mostly. Also with these bullets is there any reason that they cant be used at all ranges? I've heard amax only over 200 yrds and berger can take a bit to stabalize.

I just got my wife's 270 wsm from kriby and with a 27" barrel I get right at 3000fps with the 169.5 bullets and the 140 AB come out at a screaming 3400fps and and that is seating the bullets at 2.850 it is a very impressive rifle

I have been running the 140 Accubonds out of my Savage with a 26in barrel 3341 fps with Retumbo, I was able to run them up in the 3420's with Magpro but could not get the accuracy. With over 1200 rounds down the barrel velocity has dropped to 3100 ish and it will only shoot the Accubond, Bergers fly all over the place now.
I'm rebarreling after hunting season to a 1-9 twist barrel 27-28in long and I have a reamer set up to seat things out .010 longer so I can seat around 2.960 and still cycle though the mag. it is also set up to have a little tighter neck so I'm not munching it down any more than needed. Also going to Nitride the new barrel if it breaks in nice and shows the accuracy I want.
I'm fairly stoked about getting this thing on after hunting season and getting some "boolits" the numbers are very nice if they work out in the field then it will be a fairly awesome little chambering bullet combo, without having to suffer a 7mm, IMHO :D

im really excited to hear the good news about shipping to Canada. Everyone and Everything on this site is American and i get left out. So many purchases that cant be purchased. :)

We're still limping along. I just want to let everyone know what's going on with Wildcat Bullets.

7mm 200gr. ULD RBBT's
At the moment there's a stand still with the 7mm 200gr RBBT ULD's. I had a problem with folding ogives from the last lot of jackets I got in but am happy to report that issue is fixed. In the mean time, I sent my dies in to get polished and haven't got them back yet. I'd like to get all back orders caught up on the 7mm's before we start selling the 270 169.5's but I need to pay some bills so these might be available before the 7mm orders are all sent out.

270 169.5 ULD RBBT's
These will be available soon. Even sooner if I don't get the 7mm dies back quickly. These are shooting very well and I plan on using them this hunting season. We are also working on getting the 180's, 190,'s and 195 out. Still having some dusting problems with these. Frustrating.

30 cals 247's and 210gr. AT ULD RBBT's.
Will be up after the 270's. I've been shooting some 247gr and 210gr. Aluminum Tipped ULD RBBT's in a 300 RUM with very promising results.

264's 152gr, 162gr and 156gr ULD RBBT's
are good to go after that. My daughter will be hunting deer with the 152gr ULD RBBT's in a 6.5x284.

338 and larger
Jackets are still very hard to get a hold of for these bigger calibers. We have ordered the equipment to make our own over a year ago. I'm really not sure when I'll get it in. I'm also trying to get a steady supply from a major manufacturer, and while this avenue looks promising, I'm not sure when I actually get them in either. Butch Hairfield has some new equipment that will greatly speed up his production once he gets it up and running. Once that happens I'm hoping that the jacket issues will be a thing of the past.

Poly tips
I'm in the process of having injection molds made. We'll see how it goes. In additon to more uniform meplates, these should allow the use of thicker jackets for higher velocity tolerance while delivering acceptable expansion at lower velocities.

Shipping to Canada
Found a new exporter that is WAY cheaper. His fees are only $25 in addtion to shipping costs. The old one was $300. So orders to Canada will be a lot more reasonable.

Website
This should have been finished a long time ago. I have too many irons in the fire. Once I get caught up with orders, I'll finish the website.

Slow production Rate
I feel bad about the VERY SLOW delivery times. I'm a one man show who also has another full time job (hopefully not for long). I'm trying to move to a commercial location so I can hire and speed things up.

.
What have you found the BC's to be with the 264 156 and 162 gr bullets?

Hay Paul,

Great post and great thread. Glad to see you're getting things sorted out.

Those 169.5s are the ONLY bullet for a 270 AM!!!! Tripping along at 33 to 3400 FPS plus there ain't nothing better. Plus the accuracy is scary. I'm kind of out of pocket for awhile which is good, at least for me.

However, If you get your 7mm AM before I get my 375 AM I'm gonna come over there and put a thumpin' on ya.:D (SLC is a lot closer than Blackfoot, and I can sneak away, I think:))

Hang in there the future it gonna be good!!!
