I've been a fan of the 416 Rem Mag since it came out in the 80's but had never owned one. That changed recently when through a stroke of luck I became the proud owner of a Remington Custom Shop factory takeoff barrel. I located a donor action and sent both off to High Tech Customs - Precision Built Custom Rifles for barrel indexing and installation. It came back quickly and well done. I opened up the barrel channel of an HS Precision stock and adjusted the trigger to about 4 lbs. Loctited some Warne steel bases on it and topped it with a Kahles 1.5-6x 30 mm tube scope in Warne QD rings.
Went to the range yesterday with some 400 gr Partitions and 82 gr Win 760 in new RP brass and shot it from the bench. I had brought along my shoulder pad but took the first shot without it and never bothered to put it on. The rifle weighs right about 10 lbs and recoil is about like a 3" 12 gauge shell with no muzzle jump thanks to the heavy barrel contour. The group in the picture is my first group shot at 100 yards. Looks like a winner to me!
