Longest Hunting Harvest on the Boards

20 years ago that would have been a really long shot and still ranks as a far piece as far as I am concerned.

Last year i shot a groundhog at 758yds with a 22-250AI took me 2 shots.

This year i went back to back ground hog738yds and at the shot another stood up at 742yds 2 shots 2 kills. I have been useing a 6x47lapua with modified 95grSMK.

How are you modifying the SMK?

Most of the folks who have hunted with me here in PA know I love the longer shots, and I'm deffinately experienced enough to take them. As the title states Longest Hunting Harvest on the Boards. I've taken alot of game from woodchucks to bear all long range. I've taken almost a dozen deer between 1200 and 1400 yards with none of them ever getting away. Not all have been 1st round hits but most have been on the second after a small correction. The 2 furthest I remember is a whitetail deer I took in 2006 with a 338-378 shooting 300g SMK's at 3073 fps at 1515 yards right here in PA. Actually just a few miles behind Yo Bucks camp and Darryl Cassels home. My other furthest is a woodchuck at 2017 yards. That took me a while. I'd fire 2-3 rounds a day at him and every shot I missed put him down the hole for about a half hour. By the time he came back out conditions would change. I finally got lucky one day and got a second shot and flipped him over. I've been trying for a 1 mile deer kill for a few years. I have the guns and the equipment that are capable just can't get the deer in the right spot and conditons good enough to take a shot that far, maybe this year.

If you get a deer that far out you have to get it on video. Anything less would be uncivilized.

1456 Baboon in Namibia this last summer. One shot, 168 Bergers at 3180 out of my custom 7MM Rem mag. Turned him for a pretty good loop. He pulled all his guts out for some reason through the exit wound

My 14 yr. old boy is on his way , 530 yrd. speed goat, 540 yrd. 5x5 bull, both 1 shot kills:)

Alright I'm going to sound stupid here. Did the person gutting it pull the guts out, or did the baboon pull his own guts out? I had to ask.

Vic, When I shot, he was sitting on his haunches at 1456 watching over the rest of group. The bullet hit his solar plexes(bread basket about 4" under wear I broke the cross hairs) and it exited the size of a football roughly where his right kidney would be. He flipped over backwards and he started yanking all his inerds out. The PH told me that was normal. Turns out every baboon I shot on the trip did the same. That was fine by me because those suckers were pretty heavy at 130+ lbs and when you can only get the truck within 400 yards, they are not fun to lag back! I will have some pretty sweet mounts in a few weeks. The baboon skull will look awesome with the huge teeth it sported!
