If I were starting over, I likely would just do a straight 30-284 or 30-284 shehane because of the minimal change to the case going with 40* shoulder and there are easier die options for a straight 30-284 now by using either SAC modules dies or Cortina's die. But it's still a custom die with mine due to the 40* shoulder and different headspacing.
I would also just ship my action and barrel to a highly reputable gunsmith rather than trying to stay local and risking a less than satisfying chamber.

If 40* shoulders and reduced case taper are your goals, along with a lot of performance from a given case, look at Sherman's website.
Some cartridges are able to be fire formed from a factory chambering or variant of the same case.
The others he has available, of ADG manufacture.

In some cartridges there are multiple reamers, for the length FB you need.
It doesn't get much easier overall. Of course there are different ways to accomplish some of the needs.
I'm about to build a SS and a Mega, for my 4th and 5th Sherman chamberings.

30/30 brass is weak as a kitten, does not take much pressure, been there, done that!

IMO they have. If you look at most anything designed post 2000 but specifically the RUMS, RCMs, all short mags, Nosler line and recently the Creed / PRCs. They're not quite a full improved models like that of PO Ackley but to me a comprise of old designs and Ackley.
To the op, if you want a 22-250 AI get a 22 Creed. Nearly identical without fireforming. I've had both and they were great.

It must be Vol. 1 where he talks about the .30-30 because that is the only volume that I've read. So far. At the time, any statements about the .250-3000 would not have registered in my memory.
Even with working within it's constraints I've been impressed with it. Unless you shoot it like you're shooting a .45-70 at that distance, it isn't a one mile type of cartridge, but it's all fun. Consistently hitting the 300 yard ram with a 165 lead in front of 9 grs' of Unique out of a 14" Contender was a hoot!
Volume one in ackleys 2 set volume. Read page 334 and 282. Page 334 has the initial comments on improving the case and 282 is a follow-up comments on necking down to 22 caliber.

To all the folks who suggested the 22 CM..I did my homework and it does indeed look to be a fantastic cartridge!
I wasn't sure how I felt about it until I listened to a few podcasts and discovered it recently became a SAAMI cartridge via Hornady. That does indeed make it attractive. Very limited on factory offerings at this point. So, it's buy a premade rifle from Horizon or go full custom.
Edit: Not having to fire form seems attractive as well…

Especially when you don't have to use ammo that comes with a certain type of brass from a certain company to get brass.
