My Low Income Custom

Here is my low income custom built rifle. I do not have the green backs to go out and buy a custom built rifle but I wanted a semi built one so here is my rifle to date:

History:
2007: Purchased Remington 700 ADL from Wal-Mart for $245.00 (It was on clearance and this is with rebates) I hunted the 07 season with the rifle in 243.

2008: Purchased Remington VLS stock off e-bay for $60.00 and a friend gave me the bottom metal to convert from ADl to BDL. I hunted with it again in 243.

2009: Purchased 308 VS-SF II barrel new take off from a forum for $60.00. I sent the rifle to Patriot Arms to have the barrel installed and the lugs lapped. My total shop bill for them was about $175.00. The rifle stock then got damaged in shipping but UPS came through on the claim and I got a brand new VLS stock from Remington. Wanting a muzzle brake I finally decided on Straight Shot Gunsmithing V-Port muzzle brake so another $150.00.

So for $690.00 here she is with a pic of her first 5 shot 100 yard group using Wal-Mart 150 grain Federal Power Shoks, the cheap blue box ammo. I cannot wait to start working up a custom load for her. I also included a before pic of this rifle as well.

Congratulations on putting together a fine rifle. Update the thread when you start doing some load development.

Looks good to me. There is no golden rule saying you have to have it all at once.

right now the scope is a free loaner from a family member until I can save up for that super duper awesome see the moon scope (I have not found the one I want yet) and the bases and rings are about $30 from Wal-Mart. Again saving up for better but these allow me to shoot right now.

After this hunting season I plan to send rifle back out to SSG for a pillar bedding job, and have the bolt fluted (cosmetic option). Hopefully before hunting season I can install a Timmey or Jewell.

A kid that works for me and is an ex marine sniper and who is going to college full time and can only get part time work so have very little money to burn if any is/was doing the same thing. He asked me for my help in putting together a rig so we could go shooting together. (ulterior motive on my part as I can learn from him)
We ended up buying a Remington SPS Varmint cheap from a guy that wanted a quick sell for $350. Guns bore looked hardly fired but the outside looked to have been hunted.
I had a 700 VSFII with a H.S. Precision stock with the aluminum bedding block which I had just replaced with a H.S. Precision Tactical stock with the adjustable cheek and adjustable LOP. He then found a Tasco Super Sniper very very cheap as someone had painted it and then removed part of the paint and it looked like crap but still works very well and has decent glass and has the mill dot's he wanted. He paid full price for a set of Leupold rings and bases. He also bought a used bipod on the cheap and when he was done he has less than $500 in it. He also has future plans for the rig but for now he can shoot and enjoy himself until he has the money to do more but let me tell you this. That gun can shoot. Kind of makes me wish I had gone that way rather than the way I went. I would be about $1500 ahead right now
