Electronic turkey calls

I am trying out 2 very different calls. Texas allows electronic turkey calls and since I am a lousy caller, I decided to try them.

First, a small handheld, (or remote operated) call. The Knight and Hale "Total E Call". Cabela's has them on sale for $39.95. It has 7 sounds but for remote operation the call or sound and the volume must be preset. It gives moderate volume, and the remote range is at least 40 yds. In my opinion, it's well worth $40. Now if it will call in a turkey I'll know for sure. The cartridges plug in, and one for predators is also available.

The second one is a Foxpro FX3. I have seen some posts on this caller and they were very good. Cabela's has it for $399 without the NiMh batteries and charger, and it is phenomenal (it should be for that much money). 32 sounds; 300 available, sounds can be downloaded and unwanted sounds can be overwritten. The remote can be switched to control 3 different callers simultaneously, it can change sounds and change volume of each sound and can also mute a call. The sound volume can be loud enough to be unnatural for most of the calls. Elk, deer, cougar, etc, may be O.K. at top volume, I don't know. It can also power accessory speakers and control a Foxpro decoy. All good stuff, but the best feature is the great sound quality. It's hard to spend that much on a call, but it is also American made and backed.

My wife barred it from the house. I was having too much fun. Outside, it got all the neighborhood dogs to barking and the Crow fight and Bobcat in heat scared the **** out of the birds in the backyard. Some have just now started to come back to the feeders. I don't know what would happen if I cut the Cougar in heat loose! However, a motorcycle cop pulled into the circle in front of my house and just sat there looking around for about 15 minutes. That sure opens up some entertainment possibilities.

Which sound did you use to call in the cop? I want to stay away from that one.

JE, probably the call that brought in the cop was the "telephone call". Maybe a PETA member in the neighborhood thought I was strangling baby rabbits, or I was slaughtering crows and woodpeckers, but for sure we had turkeys and big cats running loose in the neighborhood. Think I'll lay low for awhile.

On the warranty registration, I put that I had heard about Foxpro calls from you and this website (coyote hunting forum, I think). After trying it out, it made sense for me to add my opinion about this call.

But I never counted on the entertainment potential.

I used mine opening day of turkey season and the toms were very quite but I still managed
to call in a big tom.

For the money I am very pleased with the quality and the sound that the FX3 produces.

I have 7 different turkey sounds programed in and I played all of them to find out how the
turkeys responded to each.

And I also switched from speaker to horn and then both with good results.

In the past I have observed that a weary tom will like a certain call ( box,slate,mouth,wingbone
ETC) one time and another the next. So with the electronic call I can find and repeat it as many
times as nessary to rile the old tom .

Also the use of hens and jake calls just add to the realism.

PS: I did not try the cop call.
