210"s in 300 Weatherby

I shoot a standard 300 wby /210 Bergers/Fed 215, in both my hunting gun and my match gun. Both are 30" Spencer 1-10 twist .330 neck. I Have found that RL 25 was the best. Most of the guys shooting 300 WBY sized cases in compitition shoot RL 25. I have run the gammit of powders, including Retumbo, AA8700, RL22, H1000, 7828, H5010, H870, ect..., and probably a couple others. I always came back ro the RL25. Very low ES. Retumbo came in a close second, with RL 22 third.. I shoot Molly in my hunting gun and took Retumbo up to 85 GR. I never hit the end, but 84 shot very well at around 3050 fps. I am at 80 G of RL 25. I had great accuracy at 83, and ran that for a while....backed down to 81 to save on brass, and again to 80 for the same reason. I am now at 2950 fps.
On my match gun I have only used RL 25 My match load is 74 @ 2780, and my hunting load is 83 G at 3150. I took it up to 85 G and had very very slight psi signs....but at 3290 fps. So, pressure signs or not....they were SMOKIN HOT. I think that if I wasn't using a BAT action, I would have definately seen some PSI signs!! Both are close in Accuracy, but an inch or two bigger group is huge in compition. I get 6 FPS ES with the 74 grain load, and brass will last FOREVER. I run +020 jam (+020 longer than just touching the lands) on both guns. If I use the magazine on my hunting gun I need to shorten things up a little to fit. Not much changes accuracy wise.
I can't find my records at the moment as far as where I was with H1000, but I know it didn't compare to RL25 or Retumbo. You would do fine with Retumbo if you were set on using it, But I would at least try RL 25. I am getting two new tubes chamberd up in 300 WBY, so I baught 25 pounds of it!!

.330 neck ? I though I ran thin necks at .333 !
I have had great results with 80.0 7828 for 2980-3000 fps out of a 25.5 in. barrel. It is a 13 # hunting rifle .960 at muzzle that will shoot 1/3-1/2 MOA out to 1000 yards (3 shot groups) more often than not. 8-15 ES most of the time.
I know 4x4 shoots a lot of benchrest stuff; so based on that alone will pursued me to use RL 25 in my next 300 Wby (it will have a 28 in. barrel) that being said, how long is your barrel trueblue ? I wonder if RL 25 might be too slow in a factory length barrel ?

It is a factory 26" barrel. The rifle is actually a 300 Win Mag that I had recently
rechambered to a 300 Jarrett. Had the brass and reamer on hand, and wanted to try it. I posted the question as a 300 Weatherby because I felt I would get some responses, where as not many shoot the 300 Jarrett. I have been working up with Retumbo and H-1000 and checking for pressure signs.
I am at 80grs at present and getting 2850fps with the 210's. going up in 1/2 gr incriments from here. Not seeing much difference between the two powders, but only checking for pressure at present and haven't started loading for groups yet. Loading with the Berger's into the lands .005 so I know what the pressure is with that type of load. This will end up being a hunting rig for a friend, so the hunting loads won't be loaded into the lands, but I want to know where things stand pressure wise anyway.

I remember an artical in Precision Shooting Mag. a long time ago. It was VERY interesting. The point it was making was that, in a given rifle, the optimum powder will be the best at ALL lengths!!!! WHAT!!!! That is what it said. They did a bunch of testing with different powders and guns, and then tried the same loads while cutting XX inches off of the bbl. If XYZ was the best powder with a XXX grain bullet in an XX inch bbl, it was also the best after cutting sections of bbl off untill there was just a little stub left!!!
I have a tough time with that concept, but they did it a bunch of times and had a whole pile of data to substantiate thier claim. I have every copy I ever got (except for the ones I lent out and never got back!!), but I don't have time to dig through them all.
Anyone around here read PS and remember this artical??
