Your favorite cartridge based off .30-06?

And as put that in righting I feel the potential wrath of about a dozen men or so who taught me about guns and hunting as a child ready to smack me upside the head and remind me where I come from haha 😂 Long live the king! Long live the .30-06…and those of its descendants who are more interesting 🤪

The first gun I fired, was a Bren 303, banana magazine on top.
First rifle I bought was WBY MKV 300WBY German, one year older than I am, ti was the most powerfull 300 at that time
The second rfile I bought was a Win M70 30-06, in order to retire my MKV that was in 1998

I'm curious what everyone's favorite cartridge is that's based off the .30-06? But more importantly, why is that your favorite? Is it the .280 Rem? 338-06 because you hunt elk? .30-06 because that's what you learned with? Just a friendly discussion that just might influence someone's future build.
240 Gibbs: Because it's a little different, it's fun to shoot. and because I have one

I like my 270 more than the .30-06. I like my .300 win mag more than either. I find the velocity window more useful in 270 .300 win than .30-06. The .30-06 is awesome, no doubt, I took my first deer with a .30-06 and am fond of it…but as much as it is a jack of many trades it is just as much a master of NONE!!! There, I said it! 😱🤣.
HA! Well said! A true assessment, and I'm laughing as a 30-06 guy!

There's always something that is more specialized but not always something that is more "generalized."
Marketing and cartridge development go toward specialization right?

30-06 might at least be the master of the "master of none" category LOL!
As a poor college student I took it as a personal challenge to master one gun and hunt everything with it. I chose to specialize in a generalist.
I know some masters, so I hesitate to say I've mastered the 30-06, but I know it, and it takes everything with ease.

This has been a fun thread to read.

Killed my first deer with a 30-06, should have kept it. (Model 70 Lightweight Carbine with 20" featherweight contour barrel, Leupold 2-7x scope. Kicked pretty hard). But my favorite is the old .270 Win. Have to admit, after buying a .338 Federal for my son, a 338-06 would be intriguing.

280 AI, and...
338 Hawk. Casper WY gunmaker Fred Zeglin's creation. Worthy of mention because it hasn't shown up on this list, and of course because I have one. Used it to kill a big UT bison and a bunch of elk.

I like the .280ai myself for something based on a .30-06

.25-06, .270, .30-06 and .35Whelen can all be found here in Australia. With .270 having a good following but I think .308 total numbers might outnumber them all.
