Well this past week my dad an I headed up to district 455 the Beartooth WMA. I had drawn a tag there after putting in for 4 years. The first day we saw a nice bull but he was in the trees and packed with a bunch of cows i couldnt get a clear shot at him. they ran over the ridge we were on but right as i was gettin into position a local rancher buzzed them with his airplane sending them into a frenzy. I chased them for 2 miles but no avail. tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday and saturday. went by with us being cold wet and miserable on account of the rain an snow. and us seeing either no elk or small bulls. Everyone else was getting there bulls around us. and a few of the bulls taken were decent. by saturday night i was cold tired an sore from ridin and startin to lose hope. a taxidermist friend of ours told us 2 try 2 other areas. Sunday i was up at 3:30 an riding by 4 we checked the first spot an no elk. we were ridin to the second spot when we came across 2 hunters who said they had seen no elk where we were goin we thanked them an moved on. we had 20 min before we had to turn around a go back to camp. so we could pack out. as a last minute effort i told my dad that we should ride over to these trees an check them out. As we approached the trees my dads heard a snort an saw something running. i bailed off my horse an grabbed my gun an sprinted through some trees out onto a flat, There he was the bull of my dreams standing broadside at 300 yds. i mounted the gun aimed an squeezed off an offhand shot the elk dropped, he tried getting back up an a sent another one on its way. on my way to my elk a huge Boone and crockett quality 7x7 came runnin out of the trees with six other bulls. I was happy but horrified at the same time if only id waited 30 more seconds. Oh well better luck next time. At 18 an after 6 years of no elk, I had finally acclomplished my goal of not only shooting an elk but takin a nice bull. As i got to my elk the time read 12:00, i smiled knowing that we couldnt turn back to camp now because we had alot of work ahead! Ill tell you what the 12 mile hike out was long an hard, but it was worth it! Thank god we had horses to help us out or we would of be there another week!:D My bull was a 6x7 idk wat he will gross, but until i get him scored you can guess away!
PS i need someone to send me their email so i can send them pics so they can post them for me. ThanX!!

Congratulations on your bull.;)

I've had the same thing with the bigger animal coming out after shooting mine, but that's just the way it goes sometimes and next time you know where the big guy lives.

Sent you an email if you don't already have a way to get your pics up.
