Recently I have bought HS Precision rifle in 338 Lapua Magnum caliber thinking that HS will give me better combination then Blazer R93 with 7 Rem Mag which I normally use for longer than usual shots. Unfortunately with 4 different types of bullets and different types of loads first 7-10 shots make very nice groups but after that groups start to go loose. I cooled the barrel obviously, try different loads and cartridges types but it is still the same result. I decided to clean the barrel after 7-10 shots but broke the extractor and have to wait to get a new one. Are anybody has the same experience? What it could be? Is it supposed to be like that?

I've heard a few people say that their HS rifle foul realy fast , never had the chance to look through one with a scope so I can't comment.
I've been hearing alot of bad press about their rifles lately though.

My guess would be that if the gun shoots good till you get in the 7-10 shot range then the barrel wants to be cleaned. Try cleaning it back to the barrel steel and going through the break in procedure. Maybe try lapping it a bit with some JB bore cleaner to smooth it out some.

That shouldn't be happening with an HS Precision. Have you talked to the dealer who sold you the Rifle? I think you should ask for a replacement. What size are your groups opening up to? HS Precision only guarantees their rifles up to .308 cal for 1/2 MOA. Not sure about larger calibers.

Also, trying to lap your own barrel is probably not a good idea, it might null your warranty on the rifle as well as do more harm than good. If you try breaking the barrel in, I would recomend soaking it with wipeout until you are down to bare metal, then start the break in. My Opinion.

What do you think about any other problems? I'll appreciate an advise on the break in procedure the way you see it. Thanks

The groups actually very tight on 100 yards you could get 1/4 of MOA but as I said only for 5 - 10 rounds

The barrel is fouling rather quickly is my take based on your description. What is the load that you are shooting? What action is your gun built on? I know that they used Rem 700 action for a while before building thier own clone 700 action.
