338/375 Ruger?

With all of the interest in 338 cartridges I was wondering if anyone has tried to neck down the new 375 ruger to 338.
It looks to have potential as a pretty efficient cartridge.
It could possibly work great with the new 265gr Aluminum tip Wildcats.

I am hoping for some insight from all of the 338 wildcatters out there.

No but I just built a 6.5 X 300 win mag and was wishing I'd have paid more attention and used the new 375 ruger as a base cartridge...

I think a 6.5X375 Ruger would be a good cartridge..

It would be a very effective round. Very efficent as well, only thing is though that the 338 RUM is just as effective and a bit more performance.

If you were looking to load a round into a standard length receiver you would have a good reason to build a 338 Ruger but for a long action such as a Rem 700 there would be no real benefit over the standard 338 RUM.

That said, using the 265 gr AT RBBT, the shorter length of the 338 Ruger would come in very useful in a long action such as the Rem 700 for repeating purposes.

I think it would be a great round. A 35 cal on the same case would also be a great round but for some reason the 35 cal has been cursed in this country, well, the world over pretty much for some reason, to bad!!

Thanks for the info. I am always looking for a more efficient way of doing things. I figured it might be able to approach the 338Rum in a shorter package with a bit less powder. Since the 338WSM is a very efficient cartridge but lacks the energy at long range,I thought the 338/375Ruger may retain the efficiency as well as give some added long range punch.
But as you were saying- is there really any addtional benefit to make it worth the trouble.

Well, I received my 338/375 reamer from Climer, the dies should be on their way from Redding Precision and I am saving up for rebarreling and tuning a Model 70 LA with a Hart barrel.

Considering the way my projects go, I'll have some feedback for you spring 2009!!!

A 338 RCM? It's not a wildcat unless I'm mistaken.

The 338 RCM is not the same as a 338-375 Ruger. The RCM is approx. 1/2" shorter.

I read that & all of the forum thread that resulted, thanks for the info! I wondered about this round, but based on the performance I believe I would go with the RUM.

I do wonder about using this case for 7mm however, looks like a winner to me!

been messed with already

As I sit here I have the May/June2008 edition of rifleshooter in front of me and Lo and Behold, they wildcatted the 375 Ruger to 416. I know this is not what you are doing but I'll throw out some comments from the article. The 416 Remington mag has the same water capacity as the 375 ruger although the Rem. is longer. The 375 Ruger has 2.5 Gr more capacity then the 375 H&H Magnum and fits in a standard length action. Just as an aside the author of the article achieved 2570fps from a 22 inch barrel using Reloder 15, 350gr Barnes TSX all at 8.5 grs below max load. Sounds like this cartidge would be fun to play with.
