Thumbhole stocks

Most of the thumbholes are just a stock with a hole in them for the thumb. The previously mentioned McMillan Lazzaroni thumbhole was made by Randy Lawson for John Lazzaroni.

The Lawson thumbhole incorporates far more than just a hole in the stock. The straight stock design helps with heavy recoil. The recoil pad is flared for more surface area contacting shoulder. There is a cant to the grip area is a more comfortable wrist position. Lawson uses a crossbolt safety so user doesn't have to move hand to flip off safety like other designs. I knew the late Harry Lawson and often visit Randy Lawson in his shop here in Tucson. He works with a variety of woods and has many blanks in stock. There are a few hundred patterns so he can duplicate a thumbhole or classic for just about any rifle out there. If he doesn't have a pattern he will make one. Craftmanship is awesome.

Thanks for finishing my post. Good to hear the Lawson's carry on. I remember his ads from decades ago.

I've shifted to a few manners eh5s and love them. Great looking and feel solid when holding them

I have 2 palm swell rifles. I dont mind them. But this rifle is gonna be more for still hunting, but still having extended range capabilities. I don't think i want a palm swell. I will check to see if manners can be purchased without the palm swell

I myself have a Lawson thumbhole love it. Been using it for the last thirty years. Points like a dream offhand and still works well for prone. Boyd's thumbholes are a take off of the Lawson design.

I put one on a Sendero 300 Rum and loved it ! My first venture in long range I put the stock on torqued to speck and rang steel at 1400 yrds .

I have one on a old Rem 700 in a 270 and fell in love with it. When I ordered a rifle from Kevin @ MCR rifles I had him put in a thumb hole stock also! I wish I had more of them and probably will!

Just as an aside, I ordered a Boyed thumbhole stock for my Ruger 1022 and they said no, they can't send thumbhole stocks to California. CA has decided that those stocks are just too dangerous. The Boyed Rep said, Jeepers, its just a piece of wood!!!!
