I have been lurking around this site for a while now and am enjoying alot of the reading here.

I live in the top end of the South Island of New Zealand, long range hunting is new to me but I have made a few 'longer shots' with .223 and 7MM 08. Have just finished setting up a Sendero 7MM SAUM which will get a good working out on animals in the next six months.

Longest shots to date were 525yds on Sika deer with 7MM 08 and 512yds on goat with .223.

In the past I have done alot of bushstalking and alpine tops hunting, heres a few pics.

not in the next couple of years, I would love to shoot a roe deer and a fox in the UK.

Mate is heading over mid next year to do some work for a hunting guide and some building work

Steve

Great pictures Thank's for sharingthem with us.

What load do you use for 600yrds in the 7/08.

I use my 7/08 to shoot the heads off turkeys that
have gotten smart to shotgun ranges and hold up
at 2 and 300 yrds.

The longest shot I have made with the 7/08 was
487yrds on a wild hog.I didn't know how much more
I could ask of it, but I think you have answered
that very clearly.

Very impressive on large game.

Thanks

Hi

I have the drop data for 600 but I dont think its got enough punch out that far so will limit myself to 500 yds.

I use Remington Brass, Winchester large rifle primers, AR2208 (your Varget), my load data is out in the shed but its about 45 gn. I use only 120gn TSX.

I have to re-chrony them as my mates chrony is a bit dodgy but the reading I got was 2932 which is not fast- but very accurate. Will re-check velocity now I have a new chrony

I gotta plan a trip to go somewhere! Hogs and whitetails gettin old never killed a elk but have had in scope....then the pics of the other side of the world come up...I gotta go somewhere!

Wapiti/red hybrid? thats a nice lookin animal kinda like a minature elk???? Tell more about him.

Post up more picks of some of those If you would.

Yeap, I checked that out that one just didnt look as big. May have just been the photo that threw me off. I never really studied up on Elk because well they just arnt any around in the SE. The ones I did have in my scope were in Colorado 1990'ish on my single week hunt 3 cows. Only reason I had a tag was I was active duty and cost $25 other than that I was Mullie hunting. On the cheapest hunt you could imagine. I did take a nice 5x5 (10 point) and horse owner advised bad weather on the way get off the mountain in the morning....Bad weather wasn't the word for it! BLIZZARD would have been better, anyway getting of the mountain was a 1/2 day affair.

So all in all, I have about 0 Elk experience.
