As I have told you before, I have shot LR BR since the early 80's, so I am very well aware of the obvious. HOWEVER, that is not the point, but through the decades, many BR shooters have tried most everything. Myself included. The advent of mass produced, highly accurate VLD .224 bullets is changing everything that only a small handful of us old bullet swagers used to do/know. When .224 bullets have BC's in the .5-.6 range, better than many 6mm's, and can be driven well above 3,000fps, even the slowest among us take notice of their potential.

The op was/is NOT about "1,000 BR", but an inexpensive and accurate hot rod round for shooting out to 1,000. There are many rounds, rifles and shooters that shoot very tight groups at LR that may or may not be in a 1,000 BR match, but that does NOT diminish there/their abilities. I have seen several extremely great shooters who never graced a 1,000 BR nor F class line, but could routinely take Pdogs, marmots, and coyotes at and beyond 1,000 and keep their shots as tight as anyone on the practice gongs. Formal comp isn't everyone's cup of tea.

I am glad you enjoy your limited sport and calibers, but with all respect, I do recommend you expand your shooting education and stop being so closed minded and dismissive about topics you lack updated information on.

Newest 22 Hotrod that won't burn up the barrel is the 224-Grendel! If you insist on a .473" Bolt face the next step up would be the .224X47mm Lapua case and if that's too hot on the barrel than the 6mmX47mm Lapua gets it done with DTAC's. Don't forget the New Boy on the Block the "131 Black Jack" which can make excellent use of the Creedmoor Case for consistent 3000 fps Volley's to Gong 1500 I'm told. The small game is Chock full of choices in .224 & .243... or do I go with 6XC???

I'm missing where the OP said this was a bench rest rifle. If you do bench rest then good for you. It's a challenging sport! However, 90% of the people here are hunters and casual long range shooters using long range hunting rifles at practical hunting distances at moa or smaller sized targets. 22 cals are more than capable of shooting past 1,000 yards. Personally seen a milk jug hit at 1358 yards with a 95 smk at 3200 fps. It may not be benchrest accuracy, but it's still capable of getting there. I'm willing to wager that a 22-250AI with a 95 smk at 3200 would have less wind drift and drop than a 6mm bra with a 110 smk at 1000. Just from a velocity standpoint the 22-250AI is pushing the same BC bullet much faster.

While they are used for bench guns, a majority of PRS type shooters are shooting 6BR, BRA, Dasher, Creedmoor, and 6X47. This is all field practical shooting from100 - 1780yards. There is one guy running the 95SMK from a BR with great results @2950. I have heard from one fellow that out of a 7 twist @ 3200fps the 95's are blowing up. So that might be at the max speed with that twist. No doubt that is a great bullet and opens up a whole new category for .224 shooters. The 95SMK is .600BC - The 110SMK is .617BC for those wondering.

We're pushing the 95smk out of a 7.5 twist at 3200 fps. According to drops at 1354 yards, the g7 works out to about .330 or real close to that. Still testing and finalizing data on that.
