28 nosler with 195 vs 300 win mag with 215 hybrid

I have built a pile of 30 noslers and even more 28 noslers. Love em both. I have owned them both and killed elk with both. My load with the 28 was 3050 with 195s and my load with the 30 was 215s at 3100. Both 26" barrels of the same make. Accuracy was excellent for both. I prefer the 215 to the 195 for performance on game, but it comes with extra recoil. The 28 also eroded the lands 3 times as fast. Take your pick, I like the 30, but I also only hunt elk. The 28 likes RL33 while the 30 likes H1000. H1000 is very stable.

I agree, there is no substitute for "real" world experience as I noted in #19. While nowhere near as Jeff's (BROZ) well documented continued success with the 215/.300 WM combo, I have pretty good success with 215 on .300 WSM and .300 WM.

What kind of velocity are you getting with the 215 in the 300 WSM? Barrel length? Powder?

Have you tried rl26? Rl16 is also a much higher velocity 4350burn rate powder.

I personally think those using the 180/195 just are not too willing to step up and say so except for the earlier in this post bear report. Nobody likes to tell about the one that got away after i hit it! If would be fine to say how well the 7mm does in performance on paper,but lacks game stopping like the .30 Jeff (Broz) did an excellent job on his .300WM report on game, be nice to see an actual .284 180/190 for comparison ? It is not like there are many other 7mm bullet choices, i did here someone say they can hardly wait for Hornady to come out with heavier ELD-X.?
Broz also said he does not own any 7mm anything anymore.

I have had no issues getting 1/2 MOA out of the 195 Berger in my 28 nosler. With that being said, I had to seat touching the lands to achieve the accuracy I wanted and then my rounds wouldn't fit into my magazine. I still load the 195's but they have to be used like a single shot. So I decided to try the 178 ELD-x. Shoots sub 1/4 MOA at over 3250 and fits into my AICS mag.

One thing about the Nosler cartridge, you could have all of the calibers built with one action, one could at the same time, have a 28N and 30N barrel chambered for your action. When one wants to move to the other caliber, just have the barrel replaced with the other. Barrels are the cheapest cost on the rifle build, just my two cents.

I'll be damned !!!! another one with actual real world killing data/knowledge and probably drops to a mile with a 195 load running 3050fps!!! Imagine that!!!!

For real world experience I can tell you that the 7MM and a 180 Hybrid is absolutely unreal at any range. I have a custom 7MM STW Tejas that runs the 180 Hybrid at 3100 fps (which is a little slower than what the 28 will run it). I killed a bull buffalo at 650 yards. Heart shot and he took about 5 steps and dropped. Insternals were mush. My niece killed a big 6 point bull elk last fall with it and he never even flinched. He was quarted towards us at 350 yards and she hit him on the point of the shoulder and I promise a 50 BMG couldn't have dropped him any faster, he never even fliched. The shoulder she hit was destroyed and he was blood shot up both sides of his neck clear to his ears when we caped him. I have shot elk from about 30 yards, all the way out to 1,000 and not a single one has taken a step. My brother shoot a 7MM Ultra Mag Improved running the 180 Hybrid at 3350 fps and have seen the same results with it. Everything from mule deer and elk to big buffalo have been destroyed with the 180 Hybrid. It doesn't matter rather you shoot high shoulder or vitals, they are not getting away with a well placed shot. I know the 300 WM and 215 Hybrid will do the same. But the 7MM is more than capable to laying the smack down on anything you shoot with it. I developed a load for my brothers 7 Ultra Improved with the 195s and the 180 Hybrid actually outperforms it due to the lower velocity of the 195. I see no need to use anything else in them.

I love the 7mm Berger 195 VLD-H. Picture is 2017 UT doe antelope. 7mm-300 NM at 3050 fps and 755 yards and DRT. NO bullet performance issues at all.

I'm building a custom long range gun with a .284 barrel that I was going to have chambered for the 195 Bergers until I started hearing about the terminal performance issues.

Would a barrel chambered for the 195 Bergers shoot the 175 ELDX... or should the barrel be chambered differently for the 175 ELDX?

The 175 ELDX has a BC of .689 compared to the Berger 195's .755.

I shoot a barrel throated for the 195 and a 8.5 twist it shoots the 180 berger good also, the only thing with the 180 is I had to find a good seating depth that was not to the lands like the 195

OOPS. Before someone gets after me the bullet was a 195 EOL Elite Hunter not a VLD-H. I just shoot only hunting bullets so it was a habit.

My 7 ultra rogue scalds a 180 like that , lol I shot some 168s thru it at well over 3400, I was a lil afraid to use the 180 on a deer at that velocity.

Don't be afraid! haha. If you want to save meat on a deer i do not suggest a shoulder shot. There wont be anything left to eat if you do. His rifle has taken a pile for deer from yearling 2 points his kids shot to a big old 10 year old buck he killed a couple years ago with it. Cleaning is an easy task after their internals have been turned to jelly. It is a lot of fun to shoot something like this isn't it?
