I have been watching reviews and reports coming in from the Shot Show. There seams like some good new products are coming out. However the prices are INSANE! In today's economy lets come out with a $3500 scope when 95% of the USA cant afford a $400 scope. How bout this idea....better quality for less price??

Seriously here is a list of new scopes and their supossed new pricing that are to me, simply rediculous. (I am copying this from another site so I am not taking any responsibility on accuracy).

So seriously, WTH is with all these scopes that are $3K+ ??? Everyone has sights set on S&B or what? These scopes are more expensive than my extremely bigger and higher quality spotting scope with 2 different eye pieces?

This makes me appreciate my Weaver T-Series. Actually the word Tactical is code for bend over, we just tripled the price!!!

The lupy fans will love thinking they have a high end scope. Those lupys are all tac. products so anyone on military or leo pay system gets 40% off. That's including disabled and retirees. Makes their

real price a little easier to stomach.

the simple belief that if you spend a ton of money on a scope you have bought quality drives the cost up. if people will pay 1500 the company raises the price to 2000 to see if the fish will bite

Where you finding these discount leupold prices at?

Call them I tell everyone who states they are mil or le about it. I have got 2 scopes this way. You only get the deal once a year but its worth it. I got the Mk4 M5 right when it came out for just over 1k. I am waiting on my Mk6 now but its a while out yet.

I am all in favor of the mil/le. But I still think the prices are out of line w/economy,sure are for me.

I could not agree more strongly with you. That is why when the 3200 and 4200 Elites went on close out I bought two of each, mostly for my sons once they become of age to hunt in 2 or so years.

There is nothing I love to do more than hunt and shoot, and I am anything but cheap when it comes to my hunting, but I simply can not see how scopes priced $1300 let alone $1800-$2000+ can be justified.

I bought the Elites because like millions of my fellow Americans I enjoy ZERO job security these days, and it seems unlikely to change for YEARS to come.

I can only speek for myself, but it is a whole lot easior to spend large sums of $$$ on a scope when I dont have the threat of LOOOOOONG TERM unemployment constantly hanging over my head like a the ax of the exicutioner.

If your and archery hunter have you looked at bow prices of late? you can easly scream past $1000 for a fully outfitted bow these days.

It seems all hunting related equipment is headed for the stratisfere these days.

We as a consumer are not very bright. They cost what they do for the same reason everything else does, because people will buy them. An example is my truck. It's a 2008 4 door 4x4 Dodge Ram V8 with power everything. The sticker price on it at the dealer was right at $35,000. I bought it new in December 08 when they were getting the new 09's in. I told them I'd give them $20,000 for it and wouldn't accept more then a 5.5% interest rate...and drove it home. The funny thing is they still made money off of it. Just no where near what they wanted to. It's a nice truck and has served me well so far. Call me cheap but there is no way I would have paid $35,000 on a new truck. A buddy of mines dad just paid $60,000 for a new Chevy!!!! Here's what I say- if people would not buy new cars for one month I bet they would freak out and drop the prices CONSIDERABLY! I wish we could do that with gas, but they got ya by the balls on that one.:D

That's what happens when the Gov't dumps TRILLIONS of dollars into the economy. It's the first lesson they teach you ECON 101. The currency becomes worthless.

It's not just scopes, everything is going to go up in price DRAMATICALLY.

Call Leupold, They'll email you the sign up paperwork and the price list after you scan
and email a copy of your mil id.

Its actually against DOD policy to copy/scan your ID for any kind of discount. I think the only place in the civilian world that it's authorized is for medical treatment.

The thing with prices is people see what the pros are using...but pros don't pay those prices. The pros are constantly on these guided hunts or properties with monster game and people think they need all of the same gear to take trophy animals. You don't need a $1000 bow to kill deer. Nor do you need $1000 of scent blocking clothing or $1000 invested in game cameras. It's all what people are willing to pay. Look at the $10 packs of scent blocking/eliminating chewing gum. If a deer is close enough to smell your breath and isn't dead, you suck with the bow or you really need to see a dentist.

There's a difference between the hunter looking to put meat in the freezer and the guy simply looking to shoot a trophy. The meat hunter is probably more likely to see that spending thousands of dollars eventually defeats the purpose of trying to put healthy meat in the freezer at a better price than what you get at the store.

This stuff is on the market for the same reason a Bentley goes for over $300,000...there is a market of buyers.

From the U.S. Army Provost Marshall:

Recent incidents have been reported regarding the photocopying of military identification cards and common access cards by commercial establishments to verify military affiliation to provide government rates for services. The photocopying of U.S. Government identification cards is a violation of Title 18, U.S. Code Part I, Chapter 33, Section 701 and punishable by fine and imprisonment.

"This prohibition, however, does not apply to government agencies," said Robert Krauer, director of Aberdeen Proving Ground Emergency Services. "Police can make copies for official purposes."

Although asking for military/government identification is totally permissible by commercial establishments, many government personnel are unaware of the prohibition on duplication of government identification.

There are no safeguards in place to insure a government identification card won't be counterfeited or "cloned" based on a photocopy by a commercial establishment. Criminal elements and terrorist organizations place U.S. Government identification as a high value logistical element when planning acts against the U.S. military.

It's recommended that military and Department of Defense travelers provide a state drivers license or other form of photo identification to be photocopied if an establishment insists on a photocopy of the traveler's identification.
