GEG, the Mcmillan "general purpose" worked nicely on my mod.70 with #7 contour barrel.

    Check out this website:
    http://www.tacticalstocks.com/tacstocks.htm
They have a variety of McMillan stocks ready to go, some for Win. 70 Short Actions.

Also www.mcmfamily.com for the McMillan home page. Ordering from McMillan takes a while but they are super stocks.

The M40A1 stock that Warren mentioned is one of the nicest - they work great for Winchesters (also available for Rems and Savages).

Most hunting stocks will only take about a #5 barrel contour, you will be best served with a tactical style and the M40A1 is one of the most "hunting" styled stocks.

Another option would be HS Precision, they do some Win. stocks that are good. HS uses an internal aluminum bedding block to re-enforce the stock.

Just do a search for HS Precision.
