Which tripod head for shooting

I don't think I would go for an accessory style leveling head. I would rather get a bowl style tripod and the leveling head for that. Weight should be pretty similar but you would get a stronger, more stable tripod in the bargain.

I'm also curious about shooting off a gimbal style tripod head. Properly set up it would allow kant-free aiming with near zero friction and perfect balance so you could aim it to whatever point, let go and it should stay there.

RRS tripod and Anvil 30 is as solid as a rock. Use Area 419 and Salmon River Solutions Arca rails.

I'm following this thread as I'm interested in a tripod for glassing and shooting off of. I'm building a rifle with an ARCA plate as well.

I have looked at RRS, Revic, Outdoorsman, and Swarovski. The guys at Outdoorsman claim the fluid head is best for shooting off of. I'm not tied into anyone but want to get this right. Thanks.

Anvil 30 or Harris bipod on the ground. Every other ball head including the ones from RRS are a compromise to accuracy.
What am I missing? I thought I was able to shoot lights out with a Vanguard BBH-200 magnesium which is only a Few ounces heavier than the anvil but way cheaper.

RRS makes some dang fine products as does 2 vet's. But in my experience unless you have a taste for the best of the best or you shoot off a tripod A LOT its hard for me to justify those price tags. I have a innorel carbon fiber 40mm tube tripod with their ball head and a hog saddle. Total cost was less than $400 and holds my 17# 300prc just fine. I clamped a 2x4 in the saddle and threw a sack of corn over it and it held that perfectly fine also. I went with the hog saddle so that any rifle in camp can be clamped in it. Tripod and attachments weigh less than 5# and it's held up to this west Texas Mars dust pretty well for almost 2 seasons.

I have both a ball head and a leveling head. The leveling head has a lower profile and is a bit more solid but it's also a touch more awkward to work, not fluid, doesn't tilt enough. I just switched back to my ball head as I feel I can get on target easier and I can attach my tripod and carry the whole unit on the rifle. Much faster to set up if I am on a stalk. Now this is mountain terrain, for flat land, leveling head is the way to go I think. Leg Adjustments aren't needed as much.
