So hear is the deal been looking at an ar 10 in 243. But found a steal on a 15. So question, what would be the closest thing to a 243 I could get barreled in an ar15 lower. Thanks

.243 wssm, .25 wssm, 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 spc. But why stop there 30 wssm, .300 whisper, .50 Beowulf. Not being a smart alec but there are so many chices for different distances, hunts etc....gun)

If distance is your thing go with the 6.5 Grendel (obviously my personal favorite) but 6.8 spc ll is good out to 400 yards and is actually better within 100 yards, but after 100 yards the Grendel dominates out past 1000 yards. But if you go with the AR 10 Type platform go with the .308, its a much better round and has lots more ammo to pick from.

6x45 perhaps? It will still be a 243 bullet and is everything a 223 wants to be.

If you want something close to a .243, then the 243WSSM is your best bet (in a 6mm bullet)
The 6mmARTurbo40Imp is very close. but still nearly 150-250 fps slower than the WSSM
The .243 WSSM and the 25 WSSM are your two best bets for long range. (and I do not mean inside 1000yds) You may be restricted to bullets that have a max of about 105gr but that tends to not be a problem for people looking to hunt with it.

I've seen guys shoot the 105 Amax with excelent results at an OAL of 2.26...but I've gotten best results by modifying my Pmags and shooting with an OAL of 2.375.

I was shooting 105 Amax at around 3165 before I pulled the barrel for a faster twist. Still waiting for it to show up.

Hey thanks guys. I should mention it will be a shorter range 300 yards tops gun for hunting. Any thoughts on the 25wssm, I already have 110 accubonds for my weatherby what do you think.

I had a m70 in 25wssm. I sold it due to poor accuracy but velocity figures were quite impressive, on par with the 2506.

I'll admit to ltd experience with the 25wssm but I have alot of experience with the 25.06 which is why im interested in the 25wssm. So the other manufacturers are very reliable? Thats nice to know.

Ok how does this sound, I think ill settle on either 243-223 or 25-223. I would like some input on what you guys think. I want to hunt deer and pigs close range. So I would like a 25 cal but think the 110 is to long. Or the 95 grain 243. I wonder if I could just trim the case back a little further. I know ill loose fps but I think i could still stay above 2400 fps. What do u think

Is it close range for the deer, too? Say, are you keeping it under 200yds?

.458 SOCOM is works well on deer, and would slaughter hogs. Basically an AR-15 version of a 45-70 Govt.

    I love mine!:D

I think the 6x45 - 243/223, by whatever name would be the ticket. I would start with 90AB or 85PT. Both should run above 2800fps and give you the necessary penetration for shooting hogs.

Bronco, that is exactly what. I was thinking with the nosler, Or even sst I was just pondering the idea of using 25 cal 110 accubond so I could buy one large box of bullets for that and my 257, But I think there is more work than just necking up the 223. I'm also not sure what the velocity would be after I trimmed the case back far enough to make the 110 fit.
