Depends on the quarry.

Prairie dogs= 7 RUM
wolves= 338
Elk= either of the above

Im just starting to dive down this rabbit hole but starting out with a 30" 10 twist .338 McGowen barreled Sendero and a 26" 9 twist 7 McGowen barreled LSS.

Should be a fun ride but no good stories as yet.

Hahahahha….prairie dogs and wolves come with Kevlar skin and titanium bones where you live? That's awesome. I don't judge the overkill! I've headshot a beaver with a .300 win mag and back in college went through a big box of 250 12 guage target shells in one afternoon blasting SPARROWS AND BARN SWALLOWS AND BLACKBIRDS in the farmyard with my dads old single shot. My shoulder was sore by the end haha.

300 RUM. One wears a 26" and total package comes in about 10 1/2# and the other wears a 28" and package comes in just under 14#.

Over the decades, bullets have varied based on game and other factors, but the most used are in the 180-212 varieties. In my rifles, vels are by far superior to any 300WSM or WM

RUUUMMMMS.😃 AND FUN..
Go hand an hand together.
My first was a 7mmRum in 2001 when it first came out, Sendero model. Still have it. Next was a 300RUM in 2003, laminate stock, changed the stock cut a inch off the barrel and threaded for a brake. Still have it. 3rd was a 300RUM, 28"barrel 9twt, straight taper helical fluted, McMillan stock, built on a Model 70 action, Wyatt box 3.9, Jewell trigger 8oz,
Mark-5HD 7-35 × 56 -35mm. Only weights 15lbs. Still have it. Have a Montana 1999
300RUM, and a SSPS Rem 700 7mmRum. Still have both of them. If you don't have a Rum in any caliber, you are missing out. They are inexpensive to have, if you reload, they are inexpensive to shoot, compared to anything that comes close to its performance. There are a couple really nice RUMS for sale on this site.
You better hurry I might buy another one. 👍😯

For a 1:10 twist 300rum-- ballisticly for hunting-- would you go with the 215 hybrid, 230 hybrid target, or 230 hybrid otm? What about a hammer bullet, the 180 grain?

I always have 2 loads for my hunting rifles-- 1 cup/core and 1 mono
Any one of the bullets you mentioned, do very well. I like the 215 's you do your part and the animal drops like a bag of Hammers. Bang flop.👌

Like you, I kept all mine…..sort of. I had one 300 rum that was pita to get tight. In a fit one day I traded it in on another rifle, (300rum). After a few weeks I settled down and forgave it, then went and paid their asking price for it. That my friends is how you turn 1 rum into 2!
I now have more than I'm comfortable mentioning here. 7,30,&338. No 375…..yet.

How far you wanna shoot critters?

Had a LSS 300 RUM years ago now, suppressed with 150 Scenars at 3550, learnt the lesson on Scenars since then....

Then got into Edges & built plenty of nice light ones, a decent brake is a must,

Still have an Edge on a SA Rem, recently built an 8 twist long throat 300 RUM for 250 A-Tips, haven't done much with it yet

I have a light 375 RUM showing up next week to launch the 248 Hammers :)

Personally, I have other choices that trump those 2 choices, buy if you're confident with them, then it would br the 215/230 Hybrid. Have zero confidence in all OTM's I have tried.

Cheers.
