I have been loading and shooting the 270 cal for 31 years with different bullets, powders, primers, cases etc. Shooting the 130gr. pill, the most consistant across the board was H-4831 lit off with the WLR primers. RL-22 is good also and the burn rate is almost identical but was able to sqeek out 10-20fps out of H-4831. Now i'm fixin to rub the fur the wrong way with some out there. I do not hand load for this round anymore. I shoot factory . I know, I know, break out the cross, Holy water and garlic. I passed down my Sako to one of my da-nephews that my Dad have given me, And my Remmy 700 to the other da-nephew my Mom had given me. Thank GOD I didn't have a Da-neece. Anyhow, I was without my favorite caliber so I bought me a new 270 S/S synthetic stock with a 24" pipe. Season was going to open in 5 days. New rifle never shot, no load, had to do something quick and dirty to by a little time till I worked something up. Purchased a box of Hornady light mag 130gr. sst and literally shot 1 hole group with 5 consecutive rounds at 100yds. The box states 3215 so I shot the next 5 thru the screens at 3250's, again a 1 hole group. I was pretty amazed with the velocity and acuracy but it had not proven itself on game. I'm lucky to have the East Texas grizz to test on before I use any load development on the beloved Whitetail. The factory stuff performed flawless. I tried the Hornady factory in my wife's 243. Again same results as in my 270. I tried it in my 25-06, same results. My partner Mike / Tx ask me one day how my ole 25-06 is shooting these days and I told him to strech it out a little. He shot a 1" group at 500yd gong and said yep, looks like she still got it. I take my hat off to Hornady, hell I can't touch it with the componets available to the public. Now I have time to devote on my 270 Allen Mag
