Anybody run the 215 hybrid in a short (16 or 18 inch)-- 308w bolt gun?

If so-- wondering what c.o.a.l , powder and brass you used and what muzzle velocity you attained.

2.88" or 2.96" only max?

Or have you found something better in a short (16") 308 ?

20" barrel. Baney box installed to load long. Norma case got me the most volume.

CFE223 43.5gr 2439 FPS

RL16 47gr 2493 FPS
Thanks-- what is your c.o.a.l ?

So speeds would probably be around 2350 ish in a 16" bbl - give or take --- maybe

In theory- it will fit with an oal of as little as 2.887"
As the 215 nose length is .872" - and the 308 case is 2.015"

But with the bearing length of .463" and a bt of .263"-- you would have .396" of the bullet down inside the case past the bottom of the neck

You would be single feeding unless using a long action. 2300-2400 fps. Many people use heavies in F class using 30" barrels getting 2600
I don't single feed my short action 300wsm with them and the wsm case is 2.1" long -- in theory it should work with a 308w--- but you would loose quite a bit of case capacity

If I punch theoretical quick numbers for my alt.
And assume 1000 ft lbs min.

The 215 at 2300fps - shows 1000 yards- just below 1500fps and just over 1000 ft lbs

The 178 eld at 2480 - shows 800 yards- just under 1600 fps- right at 1000 ft lbs

150 sst @ 2690 shows similar numbers at 600 yards

The 166 hh @ 2580 shows 600 with Steve's min expansion threshold

I wonder if something like the 212 eld, or 208 hybrid would be better-- anyone got velocity on anything in the 180-200 gr range for a 16" barrel?

The 215 speed is a guess, but the 178, 150, and 166 are numbers from my AR-- I want to look at bolt gun numbers though as ar's have pretty restrictive mag lengths and often times a bolt gun can be run a bit hotter

Mine are from a bolt action. I am not a single feed guy, but if I was actually going to use the 215 for hunting, I would single feed it to get as much as possible. I never pressured out with the Rl16, just ran out of case capacity.

I used H4350 in a 24" barrel and it's velocity was about where the 20" was with the RL16. It was another one that would fill and not reach pressure.

I never tried RL17, based on temp sensitivity use in other cases and seeing the accuracy change with temps (probably not a good node anyways).
