We are new to the AR world. My wife Lori, decided she wanted an AR when all of this gun control BS started. So she sorted out an DPMS Oracle. I just purchased the scope now I am trying to find her some mounts. I'd like to find something that sits lower if possible. Is there an advantage to having the scope higher or lower?

With an AR you can only go so low due to the straight stock design. I prefer the one piece mounts as they have it figured out and put the optic right where it needs to be for comfortable eye alignment. The Armalite one-piece is usually my goto. It have forward offset and mounts as low or lower than most. It works very well for me.

Close your eyes, shoulder the weapon. Once settled in and relaxed with out moving open your eyes. Ideally you would want to be aligned vertically with the scope with out any raising or lowering or your head. Purchase the scope rings with a height that gets you as close as possible to whats needed. If this was a bolt action I'd say, you can always raise the stock with an aftermarket cheek rest. However to raise the stock on an AR your going to be replacing it with an aftermarket product.

Burris PEPR or RRA one pice mounts are best bang for your buck mounts. Myself and all my hunting buddies run the Burris PEPR and a few have the RRA mount. If you don't mind spending the extra money go for the Larue.

I have a Nikon M-308 for my 6.5 grendel and I think it is very comfortable to shoot. I had a scope mounted on a set of high rings and this mount is ten times more shooter friendly. I would assume the m-223 was similar.
