I plan on replacing the barrel on a savage model 12 tonight and using a shoulder rather than the barrel nut. How much clearance do you leave between the boltface and the barrel tennon?

eddybo, On hunting rifles you should have about .010" so dirt or crap dosent lock it up. You could go to .005" if you want a tighter tolerance, but it will likly effect nothing. Savage bolt faces are typically .125" deep so at .010 you will only have .135" of unsuported brass this is less than Remmys at .150"

Thanks for the info. I am heading out to indicate the barrel in and needed an answer.:)
