SBruce how do you convert moa to inches? my brain is over loaded
Do you shoot a 308 at long range? Im shooting the 175 SMK My buddy thinks i should shoot a 165 or 168 or smaller for 600, 700yrds . what are your thoughts

To convert moa to inches, multiply moa by 1.0472, this will tell you how many inches per 100 yds you're dealing with. Just like you already did, 6 moa covers 6.28 inches at 100 yds........therefore it also covers 37.7" at 600 yds.

Again, just another reason why shooters moa or IPHY is easier, because 6 IPHY is 6" at 100 and therefore 18" at 300, 36" at 600 ect. No conversions and way easier to wrap our heads around.

I don't shoot a .308, but I've got a 300 WSM in the works.

According to factory ammo velocities, the 168's are not much faster than the 175's in a 308. Only like 50'/sec so you won't gain anything really. The 168's will have lower BC's and more wind drift. Only plus I see for the 168's is maybe less recoil.

Stick with the 175's. I am and have shot 308 for 3yrs now. I don't play w/ mil-dots anymore and just use my turrets. If you are planning to stay within the 600 to 700 yards then 168's would be fine, but the 175's will still win in a war against the wind. If they shoot well in your rifle, don't change a thing. I am going to be playing with the new Hornady 178 BTHP. If I can't get a hold of anymore, then I am going to transition to JLK 175's.

As far as your comment about the 168's, yes speed is really the only advantage at those distances. However you go beyond 900yrds the consistency starts to slip especially if you use 168SMK's. The Bergers, A-max, and Nosler Custom Comps will do okay at 1000 yards, but they are really running out of steam compared to the 175's.

I have not, but those that shoot them have good results. They are going to shoot very similar to Berger as far as seating is concerned. The Hornady BTHP 178's have a BC of .530. The disadvantage to JLK is the wait time on the bullets. You have to order well in advance of when you plan to actually use them.
