saterlee load test

I'd go with 42.4. It corresponds to a long time used 140 grain node for 6.5s. 2810-2820 is where I shot my Berger 140s and my 147 ELDs are in the same place. I got RL 16 into the 2900s and even shot a upper 2800 load in a couple matches. I couldn't shoot it in my wife's rifle, and if the barrel heated up from PRS shooting, it would start punching primers. My recommendation is if you want to run 2900, get a 260AI, 6.5 Addiction, 6.5x284, or one of the other rounds that were designed to send the 140 and up that fast. I don't think 70fps will buy you that much in bullet performance.

Definitely not trying to get 2900. Have a 6.5 284, 6.5 prc , and now a 6.5ss to do that. This gun will be my 600 and in south texas whitetail rig.

I would really try that 42.2-42.6 node as will. I would load 5 each right in the middle at 42.4 or 42.5 and try it. I think that would get you to 2800 and produce a good ES.

so went to range this morning and loaded 5 of 42.3 and 5 of 42.4
charge velo es sd
42.3 2836 11 5.7
42.4 2844 6 3.2

works for me
Great results! I figured that would be a good load. The 6.5 Creedmoor really likes that 2820-2850 node. I would stick with 42.4, that's a real winner.

You picked a winner! I'm new to this method as well and just started tinkering with it, and I don't mean to hi-jack Rockwall's post but, which node(s) would you test next from my data?

42.2-42.8 is where I'd be focusing. Load 5 each at 42.3 and 42.7 and try it. I really think anything between there will be a good load.

you seeing any pressure around 42.6 to 42.8?
No, the primer is starting flatten out at that point, but no brass flow. My last barrel I had settled on 43.1 so I'm comfortable shooting that hot, but I'd like to get a little more barrel life on this barrel, and I don't want to be over pressured on hot days. Also, I'm thinking I can possibly get more consistency from a more mild load. (Not sure, just a theory). So I was hoping to stay between 2700 and 2800 fps.

Thanks! I'll give it try.
Like I stated above, in hopes for more barrel life I was hoping to stay between 2700 and 2800, (although, how much does one gain from 80 fps in terms of barrel life?). So, I'll probably test the 40.8 node as well. Maybe I'll end up with 2 pet loads.

elkaholic is right about that low node too. I personally go with the fastest node I find, as long as accuracy, pressure, and consistency are all in check. I would really try 42.8 and load up 5 of those and try them out. If 2730fps meets your needs, and you're wanting better barrel life, that load there I can almost guarantee will be a winner.
