April 30, 2024 - Recap of the URSA 3000 Yard Challenge (2024) (by RD, Lynn Dragoman; build info and notes from Oscar)

Congratulations go to Calshipbuilder on his win at the "URSA 3000 Yard Challenge (2024)" match on Sunday – his second 3K win in the last three years! We drew numbers and he was the first shooter of the day, using his 33XC and shooting off a Mitch Palmer "PronethroneTM" to best the field.

There was a sudden death shoot-off for Runner-Up and Amanda used the .338 Ackley Improved she won last year to beat Jim and me, both shooting .375 CTs. Great shooting Amanda!!!!

Thank you to RickyRacer87, Jim, and Shaun for the hard work they put in on the 3311 yard gong. We shoot from a mountain top across a couple valleys and they made it look manicured like a golf course. Great job guys and thanks for all the help. We did shoot out to 3311 yard gong after the match and got to see the lights flashing a couple of times.

Next year the 3K we will be back to our historical 3rd Sunday of the month.

We're now back to our regular schedule of 3rd Sunday of the month for the rest of the year. Next match will be May 19th.

Match Winner, Calshipbuilder, was shooting 300 gr. Hornady A-Tips out of his 3D Precision-built 33XC with Barnard PL action, 32" Bartlein barrel, McMillan A5 stock, and Tangent Theta 5-25x56 scope with Spuhr rings on a 40 MOA Barnard rail.

Match Runner-Up, Amanda, was shooting 300 gr. Hornady A-Tips out of her Savage 110 FCP HS Precision (factory action and modified factory stock) with 32" Bartlein barrel, chambered in .338 LM Improved by Jim's Precision, and Nightforce 7-35x56 ATACR scope on ERATAC 0-70 MOA base and rings (on the 30 MOA Savage factory rail).

Is there a website for these matches? Where are they held?
Looks like the range is just a bit east of Sacramento California. Image that... LOL

I would have guessed Wyoming, Arizona, Utah Montana... Never California.

I was amazed that the winners were shooting Hornady A-Tip bullets. I would have suspected Bergers or similar....

I know that a lot of y'all reading this already are familiar with the A-Tip aluminum tip bullets but I've never known much about them.

They're only $1.12 each from Midsouth in a hundred lot and in stock now.

I don't own a 338 but I load for a buddy that has a Lapua.

That's some serious shooting at 1.875 miles... I don't think my 6.5CM will quite handle those ranges. Wait... Wait... Of course it will. It's a mighty Creed!!! LOL
