NF ATACR F1 4-16X42

I picked one up last night for a steal (LNIB - $700 less than retail) and I plan to run it on my T3X CTR (6.5 Creed, in McMillan Carbon Game Hunter). This is my primary big game/lr hunting rifle. I run 143's right now, but am thinking hard of switching to a 139 scenar at around 2800 FPS.

The rifle previously wore a Weaver TAC 3-15X50 so I am aware of the FFP (I actually prefer it). Anything good or bad to report with this NF?
How does the MIL - R reticle do in a big game hunting environment?

I personally don't care for the Mil R , but the 4-16x42 ATACR is one of the finest optics available in the mag range , probably the best.

Better than a S&B PMII 4-16x42? Or the S&B PMII 4-16x50? Or the S&B PMII 4-16x56 UB? Or the Hensoldt ZF 4-16x56?

Just bustin' your chops. Even though I do not OWN a NF, I have shot behind a bunch of them. They are very good scopes. I am awaiting a 4-16x42 ATACR F1 as we speak for a rifle I have in my safe.

Yes sir , I've had them all except for the Tangent Theta. Sold them and continue to run NF. The S&B line is top notch, Hensoldt is even better, just doesn't fit my personal needs perfectly.

That's the beauty of quality options, pick the one that suits your needs and never regret the choice.

Put mine on a 300 wm in February. Quite a bit of range time. Got a chance to stretch it out in the Texas panhandle, amazed at lining up on coyotes to ~1500 yds. I am sure deer and elk will be no problem this season.

Good choice! I own the NF F1 ATACR/MiL-R, and the S&B PMII/P4F in the 5x25 versions. IMO, both are in the top tier of this class of scope in terms of optical quality, mechanicals, and reliability. IMO, the ATACR F1 is a noticeable step up in glass, turret design, and parallax/focus control over the standard ATACR, moving it closer to the S&B. Having used a variety of the different reticle styles from simple mildot to the elaborate "Christmas tree" styled reticle designs, for hunting purposes I personally like and prefer the MIL-R and P4F reticles(which are quite similar) over the more cluttered designs. To my eyes, they have the reticle substensions and features well optimized, providing good visibility and usability encountered in hunting conditions, particularly low light and shadowed target areas. Just one mans opinion.

If you meant to say the ATACR is a step up over the NXS I whole heartedly agree. I have both ATACR F1 amd F2's. They are the same glass, turrets, and parallax adjustable knobs.

But I also like the F2's for hunting as the reticle doesn't get so small as it's hard to see in the brush.

I was referring to the original ATACR the does not have the "F" designation. The newer "F", IMO, is a step above i it.

That's what she said ! Once you start cranking on them , the turrets will really grow on you . When I first got my ATACR I didn't care for the size of the turrets, but now I wouldn't have it any other way. I just wish they'd offer the locking elevation turret on the 5-25x56.

Adam, that rifle is bad to the bone! Did your Tikka barreled action drop right into the McMillan, or did you have to do some fitting?

It was a direct fit drop in. Awesome fit with no gaps, unevenness, mods needed. I haven't even bedded it and it will do 5 shot 1/2-3/4" group all day long.
