Need data for 338 RUM w/225 TSX

I'm looking for an 338 RUM load with the 225 TTSX bullet which I just picked up. Not much loading info around on this bullet. I've got most powders on hand but prefer the Hodgdon series of powder. I'll be using R-P brass and Fed GM215M primers.

So far I've got the rifle shooting just under .5 moa with the 300 SMK but I'm not sold on using that bullet for hunting.

Anyone have an accurate load for the 225 TTSX that they'd like to share?

Barnes manual #4 data for 24 in barrel, R-P brass, GM215M primer.
H 1000 starting load 87.5 grains, velocity 2799, max load 95 grains , 2985 velocity.

In my 338rum with 26in barrel, 95 grains gives 3000+fps.
I like TSX and TTSX bullets, use them in multiple calibers and have always had good accuracy with them.

I've been working up loads for my brother's Remington LSS 338 Ultra. It has pillars and been bedded. RL 22 90.5 grs, 225 TTSX's. 3050fps. Could not get it to shoot under 1 inch. Shot it 35 times moving bullets in 5 thousandths at a time. Shoot 2, if not 1/2 inch , seat in another 5 thousandths, and so on. I've seated bullets from just under magazine box length to 65 thousandths under magazine length.
So I tried the 210's TTSX with RL22. First 4,3/4 inch.Seated in 5 thousandths and shot 2 touching, shot 2 more, all touching, last one opened up group to 3/4 inch. Going to try this load again.
This lot of 210 TTSX's bullet ojives run about 4 thousandths difference on the ojive. So I am going to make sure all bullets are the same ojive before I load more. Never had this problem with Barnes before.
I worked up 3 other Remington 338 Ultra's using 210 TSX, and they all shot great. Velocity with the TSX's avearage was 3340fps. This gun is the first one using the tipped Barnes.

I'll give the H1000 a try first. Coincidentally it's the powder that produced the tightest groups with the 300 SMK. Does the Barnes #4 manual list H4831 or Retumbo with the 225 TTSX?

i have 2 edges, 338/300 ultra mag. and when you go to the 225 gr bullet range, it seems to want a faster burning powder. h1000 works great with the 250-300, but i think you'll get better results with rel 22 or my favorite, Norma MRP. Retumbo is probably a tad slow, would work better with the heavier bullets, but 4831 might work well.

Manual 4 has Retumbo starting at 84.5-2833fps, max 93.- 3017fps.
Doesn't list 4831sc.

I have never looked at a Barnes loading manual but would be concerned about shooting loads that light. 87.5 grains of H-1000 is around 15 grains below max in the rifles I have shot. 84.5 grains of Retumbo is around 20 grains below max if you could get enough in the case. Just flat out can't get enough of these in the case to get a max load.

My best load in the rifle I shoot now is 99 grains of RE-25 and that will shoot extremely accurate in the high 3200's fps. That is the slowest extruded powder you can get enough in the case with. 94.5 imr-7828, 98 grains magpro, 96.5 grains winchester WMR all shot very good groups from mid 3200's to 3300 fps. These are with Fed 215 primers.

I guided my brother last year on a mule deer hunt and he got a nice buck at 680 yards with 99.5 grains of RE-25 and the 225 ttsx out of his 338-300 RUM at 3280 fps. Most accuracy loads are interchangeable between the 338 RUM and 338-300 RUM. They are virtually identical chamberings performance wise. Max will run 2-3 grains higher in the 338-300.

I agree with the guys saying go faster like between RE-22 and Re-25. Look at a burn rate chart and get a powder in that range. These will fill the case about right with a max load. If you have RE-25 start around 95 grains and work up. With RE-22 start at 91 grains and work up if you have that. Look at a burn rate chart if you have powders between those you can extrapolate pretty close.

I use 97 grain of RL25 behind the 225 Accubond. Since the Barnes is known to give a little more pressure, I would start lower at 93. In my rifle, original Remington XCR, 97 grain RL25 gives 3160 ft. but in warm weather it starts to give a slight shiny extractor-spot on the brass. Use RP brass and Federal 215 primers.

The Barnes data is for 24 in barrel they used for testing. Manual 4 loads tend to be a little less than what they had in Manual 3. I am assuming due to liabilty(lawyers) they have backed off loads some.
In my rifle 26in I'm loading 97 H1000 with both the 225 AB and TTSX and getting 3100+, with good accuracy,however I have to seat to 3.59 so as to fit in my mag, and when seating bullets I can feel that I'm slightly compressing powder. Have not tried RL25.

Remember I am out here in cool Wyoming so my loads may be hot for hot climates. I can shoot 101 grains of H-1000. Retumbo I just can't get enough in the case for a max load. So go to a slower powder.

What was your COAL with the 210 TTSX in the 338 RUM ?
I am having problems in my Rem 700

You might want to give Hammer Bullets a try if you can't get the Barnes to work. They are insensitive to seating depth so you can run whatever length and not worry about it, super easy load work up.
