Hello folks,

New here and new to handloading. I have just "built" a 270win here's what i have going on, a 26in Mcgowen 1:8 twist (SAAMI spec), Savage axis action, on a oryx chassis dont recall what the rail or rings are but ive got a venom 5-25 on it.
Any recommended loads? I have on hand 148grHH 150grPRT. Powder i am limited to what i can get I have some H4831sc and IMR4831 , primers are all CCI large rifle BR. Looking to take this gun out to 700+ yard on deer sized game.
Thanks, Joe

Either 4831 should get you close to max velocity with 150's. However, you may find H4831 to be slow but very accurate.
I don't think either of those powders will be suitable for HH bullets, maybe H4350 would be more suitable.
For the normal CC bullet, try H4831 and 57.5g (MAX).

Cheers.

55 gr of H4831 should get you about 2800 fps or so for a 150 cup/core bullet. 55 is a near max load according to the Hodgdon website. 53 is a near max load of IMR 4831 and it is showing only a few fps faster than H4831.
Always start low on the powder charge.
