Ok guys, my sickness has reached epic proportions. Once upon a time I had a safe full of nice rifles and shotguns. Then my business went through a really rough patch and my cash flow was crushed almost overnight. Having two young boys at the time, both w/ learning disabilities and one w/ other special needs, forced me to sell them off.....along with some other things that I thought I'd never ever sell.
Fast forward a few yrs and things have rebounded, hard lessons were learned, and I'm slowly filling up the safe.
Im mainly a Hunter but joining this group has sparked some interest in doing some long range shooting.
I'm trying to find a nice rifle that would fill a void. I have two tack drivers, a .280ai and 6.5prc, that shoot 168s and 140s respectively. I'm thinking something in the 6mm family that will perform well with 100-110gr pills.
My list of features are as follows, and some may seem peculiar but that's just me.
1. No magazine extending 5-6".....that's just a personal preference. I do like the HS that only hangs down an inch or so.
2. barrel no longer than 24", but at least 20".
3. Weighs less than 9lbs bare.
4. If it's some obscure caliber I'll need some loaded rounds with the rifle. I don't reload and don't think it's a good time to start.
5. I really prefer a traditional hunting build....the tactical stuff is great but not for this buy.
6. I'll buy off the rack but not usually. A Cooper or proof would do the trick, along with a few others.
7. I would consider a wood stock....but a composite is more likely to trip my trigger.
So that's about it. I almost bought a proof 6CM recently (on this site) but someone beat me to it.
Most of you guys have forgotten more about this stuff than I'll ever know.....so please give advice on calibers, builds, whatever.
Oh, I forgot budget....I have one but I never stick to it, so if you have something you'd like to move, send it.
Thanks to everyone

It is hard to beat the value of a Ruger American Predator or "Go Wild" edition, they shoot great out of the box but do seem to be hard to find right now. I hear a lot of positive feedback from the bergara line of rifles also. I would second the idea of 6creed because ammo availability is there and works very well.
You should list a budgetary number you are trying to stay in. Sometimes with the amount of custom builders with great names, you could build a heavy sporter/light varminter for what you would spend on some others.

Sako 243 period. Hsm loads berger factory 105s . Should be good to 1k or better
I was thinking about a Sako. I don't know if I have the ability to shoot a really light rifle accurately out to long distances, but I guess that's what practice is for. The fin lights and FL2s are easy to find and won't break the bank. That's always a good option if nothing comes for sale that really wows me.

I think Salo has there shi$ in order. Some very nice rifles. And yes a light rifles will shoot just as good as a heavy.

It's not a 6mm, but long450 has a 260 for sale on this site. 10 twist should work well with light bullets. It appears to be a sweet one. I'd be giving it serious consideration if I didn't already have something similar.

Man I've looked and looked at that rifle....it's certainly a good buy. I bet a lighter 110-120gr pill would fly nice out of that twist.

Hard to find any 6mm with a twist rate for heavier bullets re; 1-8. Just the Creedmoor. Have you thought about building a custom ?

I have a matching set of rifles, but the 6x47 would do all you are asking and then some, other than being a factory round. I am not far from you, so loading would not be a big deal as I have the press and components.

I have a 6.5x47 Lapua I might let go if that's any interested to you? It's a blueprinted Remington short action with a 8 twist 26in long bartlein barrel with a custom break. Gun shot awesome just going to move to a 25 creedmoor. I would include 260 rounds of brass and 300 rounds of Berger 140 grain bullets along with the die. The action and barrel set in a KRG Bravo chassis with atlas bipod. Take $2,500.00 for it all I posted a 5 shot group at 200 yards optic not included
