In my experience the Tikka's I've owned shoot well out of the box and do so with most factory loads, dial in a load and a it's consistent clover leaf. I have a t3 light in 300wm with a vais break that doesn't hammer your shoulder.
Yessir - https://jaoutdoors.com/product-category/tikka-actions-accessories/Is there anyplace that sells just the Tikka action if a fellows wants to add a faster twist barrel and carbon stock?
How short for magnums? With your experience what is the heaviest projectile you have gotten in?Like and use the three T3s (6.5x55, 30-06 & 338 Fed), great lightweight hunting rifles. Super smooth actions, good hunting triggers and easy to carry.
The cons. Poor customer service and long action and mag is a little short for magnums.
I too wish they had a 3 position safetyI do wish the safety didn't lock down the bolt, or rather I wish there was a 3rd position that made it safe but didn't lock down the bolt.
What wasn't ideal about the 7mm and 300 mags? What I'm looking at is buying a 7mm mag I'll shoot it for a bit, then rip the barrel off and swap out for a 6.5-300 wby mag. That is why I'm trying to figure out what you mean by a little short for magnumsHow short for magnums? With your experience what is the heaviest projectile you have gotten in?
LOL the sweede and Fed have plenty of room, the 06 enough. Common sense made me choose rounds that fit and recoil less in this light format A couple of shooting buddies actually guinea pigged this setup, sure it can be made to work with 7 and 300 mag but they are not ideal!
I love my 30-06 altralite and its proven to be very handy and accurate with the only load it likes= imr4831 and 168 grain Amax. The Sweede lite is not as fussy and will shoot 140 grainers or heavier great. The 338 Fed likes 200 grain flat bases and Tac but none of the factory Federal ammo!
Thanks for posting this info.LOVE the tikka platform, we've got all kinds of great rifles built on them.
Here's a little-known fact that we see nearly every day:
Tikka fluted action with trigger, magazine, trigger guard assembly & Screws: 34 ounces
Defiance Anti with hawkins oberndorf bdl bottom, Triggertech trigger and wyatt's magazine kit: 30.2 Ounces
Magazine length restrictions do leave a little to be desired with the big magnums - however, we have built MANY 7mm rem mags & 300 win mags that hammer at factory COAL of 3.340.
I'd be on your buddy's side. I think they are great for what they are. I have a couple friends that have them and they shoot very well. One in 300wm is not fun to shoot.I argue with my buddies all the time. They spend thousands on custom actions. I defend tikkas. They are awesome for what you pay. Some dislike the stock, but they are actually pretty good with only an updated recoil pad.
Aftermarket stocks available if you want. Can easily get pre-fit barrels later if you want to change things up.
Actions are all LA (bolt stop and mag changes between cartridges) which leaves a lot of flexibility in the future. The actions are about the same weight as savage and rem SA as well so light for what you get.
Triggers are good (spring add can drop weight if you want for $5).
And have about the lightest bottom metal setup available, if you don't mind plastic. I've never had an issue.
Overall solid.
Cartridge length in LA is limited to roughly 3.34" which is exact SAAMI for 300wm. Leaves no room to sneak closer to lands or adjust. There are a few aftermarket options that can get you longer. May be less of an issue with 7rm.Thanks for posting this info.
I am thinking 300 WSM, 7mm SAUM, or 7mm PRC.Cartridge length in LA is limited to roughly 3.34" which is exact SAAMI for 300wm. Leaves no room to sneak closer to lands or adjust. There are a few aftermarket options that can get you longer. May be less of an issue with 7rm.
All should be fine. May be limited on PRC depending on projectiles, throat, and desired performance (based on research not experience).I am thinking 300 WSM, 7mm SAUM, or 7mm PRC.
