If I put my Mark4 and my Vortex side by side, my old eyes discern no difference in light gathering ability or clarity across the entire magnification range and that applies to the 4.5 x 14 and the 6.5 x 24. Can't speak for the FFP as mine are alll SFP. There has been some discussion about the appearance of a crescent shadow in the eyepiece, when the elevation is cranked all the way down, it's actually you looking at the scope tube inside. I haven't had that issue...yet. Keep in mind that the '0' stop on the Vortex isn't a positive 'feel' stop but rather a soft, go past '0' stop, achieved by adding brass half moon washers under the erector turret. You'll go past '0' a bit, depending on how many washers you can fit in the space. Mine typically crank less than 1/4 revolution past '0', but I add the final washer opposite to what the instructions state, to remove as much space as possible. If you adhere to the instructions, you wind up with a half turn or better past '0'. The turrets (IMO) are more positive than the Mark4 and easier to grasp as well. I would prefer capped tall turrets on both and neither have that. My Leupy benchrest scopes all have tall capped turrets, something I like but thats a personal thing. Would I trade/sell my Mark4, for a Vortex 4-16FFP? Maybe. It's a good deal if you realize the asking price of the Vortex from the Leupy. I like them all so not my thing.
