Large rifle primer or small rifle primer for 308 Win

Getting started out into reloading just curious if there is a good reason to choose one over the other. I have plenty of mixed brass already, just checking for what direction to go in the future.

Use whichever you have more brass and primers for.
I have both and use primarily LRP brass because I have more.
SRP brass can take a bit more pressure before loosening pockets due to the extra brass support there.
Besides that… with standard loads, either will work fine.

Gotcha, thats kind of what I figured. I'm not really planning on loading 308 very hot, I have other calibers for that.

I am using Large primer in Lapua brass, 155g palma, 155g TMK, 168g MK, 168g TMK, 170g Norma tip strike, and 175g TMK. All bullets shoot tiny groups opening up a bullet hole, Rem 700, MHV Krieger 10, 11, and 12 twists with short freebore chamber where the 168g MK BT shank sits right at the shoulder/neck junction to touch the lands....mercy, what a shooting chamber reamer!

I prefer SRP in brass with .473" head size. The brass lasts longer due to handling pressure better and primer pockets rarely ever grow with regular loads. I have Lapua 6.5x47 which is SRP, have had dozens of firings and no primer pocket movement.

I have been buying small rifle primer brass for the "308 family" whenever I can as I have more small rifle primers than large. 308, 260, and of course the 6BR family which only has SRP brass.

I have tons of LR .308 brass and plenty of primers to go in them, so it's an easy choice for me.

In the modern days of shortages. I see SRP and mag SRP on the shelves consistently. LRP...not so much.

Reloading makes you shoot more. To do that, supplies are needed. Just sayin

I've been checking with my local distributor/wholesaler.
Plenty of Federal, CCI, Remington and Winchester small rifle primers.
No stock of large rifle primers or magnum primers.
