A local shop had a couple lbs of IMR 4166 and I am planning to teach a young fella amd his dad how to reload for their recently purchased 6.5 CM rifles. For now, they just wa.t to get it and shoot, so we are going to just load some middle.of the road loads and I thought this powder would work fine. When I looked up the min/max charges for 130 grain bullets, I found that the velocity is pretty meager. I think the book max only yields like 2660 fps. Has anyone else worked with this combination?

If so, were yiu able to get any better results? Next question if this powder isn't atleast decent for this cartridge, what cartridge does it perform well in? I reload for a bunch of cartridges, and could maybe trade him for another powder that performs better.

Please advise. Thanks.

If your buddy's barrel is in the 20-22" range then what your reading is right.

4166 for the 6.5 CM works better with lighter weight bullets (85-125). We've used 4166 as a Varget replacement.
