How long do you wait before cleaning the bore on your rifles? I took a rifle out of state several weeks ago and shot about 15 rounds in one sitting. Due to a busy work schedule I have been unable to clean my rifle.

Is this a big mistake on my part?

When cleaning my rifle, should I use a brush? Are bore guides necessary?

What solvents do you suggest?

After the bore has been cleaned, should I leave a the barrel lubed with a light coat of oil?

Thanks for your info!

See the other thread on how often to clean your rifle.

If it's stainless it needs less babying than a CM action and barrel.

As for methods everyone has their own. I'm a big fan of the foaming bore cleaners and not running a rod any more than necessary.

Exterior, carburetor cleaner and 000 steel wool then a light coat of machinegunner's lube and I'm done.

Bolt, blow the crud out with carburetor cleaner and/or soak in solven occasionally and then blow out and again, light coating of machine gunner's lube.

Don't overdo the oiling, oil attracts dust.

Always put them away clean (of dust and debris) and dry and you won't run into many problems.
