How Important is it to have 4 scope base/reciever screws??

Hello Fellas,

I posted before that I stripped-out a reciever screw, so I had the holes re-threaded to the larger 8x40 screws, however the front screw still seems stripped...it catches a bit and then spins.

The other 3 are perfect and the scope base is torqued to 25lbs.

Regarding the stripped screw, I mixed a batch of Devcon 10110 and filled the hole with it....I then placed the screw into the hole and tightened it just until it caught a bit and left it at that.

In your experience (and lets assume the worst and say that the Devcon screw/repair isn't tight) will 3 torqued screws provide enough strength to securely hold the scope in place, or is that 4th screw a must.

It's a 7mmRemMag.

Thanks!

To be fixed right...it should be silver soldered and retapped.

Its not an expensive job, but probably will require a good smith to do.

Ridgerunner,

I dodged a HUGE bullet!

I double checked and found that the front screw was actually a bit too short!

I used a longer screw and it was perfect!

Thanks!! Whew....
