130 grain barnes ttsx with h4350.

OR, I read numerous accounts of shooters using H4831SC in .270 Win loads so I tried it with 130 gr Hornadys. Very accurate load. The ELD-X bullet is 15 gr heavier and I haven't seen data for it. Not bad for a $250 used rifle and picked up brass.

I am working up a load using IMR-7977 and the Hornady 145 ELD-X bullet. I have not got it to shoot quite as well as I hoped for so I am working on seating depth etc.

I am using the Hodgdon data for a 150 grains bullet since I found no data for the 145 Hornady. IMR-7977 is close to H1000 in burn rate.

I use Barnes TTSX 110 grain and Ramshot Hunter @ 63.5 grains with WLRM primers. Velocity is the most consistent I saw in my experience. S.D. of 5 or 6 is normal. Velocity runs right at 3,500 feet per second. I went hunting the other day. One of the cases had an "8" and one case had a "12". That means one was fired for the ninth time and the other was fired for the thirteenth time. Three shot groups run 5/16" to 5/8".:)

I have been using the Sierra 130 SBT Gameking since 1980. My loads are not super hot but shoot very nicely. My Rem M700 did well with IMR4350 @ 3002 FPS. My Tikka T3 lite likes H4831 @ 2934 fps. I've entertained the idea of switching to Hornady.

My longest bang flop shot to date with my 270's is 385 yd neck shot.

60 grs H4831, Rem case, CCI BR2, 130 Sierra Game King or Nosler BT runs a little over 3100 fps out of 24" barrel is a tack driver and deer smoker. This used to be the powder charge that was listed on the Hodgdon H4831 bottle when they first went to the bottles. I was using this load long before that. This has been a go to load for years.

I shot a 270 exclusively for deer and elk for many years. It was my first "deer" rifle at age 13. I converted the worn-out barrel to 6.5-06 a few years back for something different. It dropped many deer and at one point had only required one bullet to be fired for each of 11 consecutive deer taken in Arizona. No missed shots and all first shot kills (finally missed a monster Mulie I swear to this day was being protected by an unseen force; I'm sure many of you have had similar experiences). My favorite load was the 140gr Accubond behind IMR4350 loaded to 2950 fps. This load fired from the factory 22" barrel produced consistent groupings and reliable terminal performance for me.

My target looks the same with my old Belgium made BAR, 60gr H4831sc , Remington cases, BR2 primer and the 130 Partition. Awesome load!

This is a nice load for the 270win.

117g Hammer Hunter over 58g IMR-4350 at a vel of 3335fps. This load was developed in a factory Savage. As always reduce and work up.

The 117g Hammer Hunter has proven to be an exceptional bullet on many deer and a 300 class bullet elk taken last year in MT at 550y shot from a 270wsm at about 100fps faster than this load for the 270win.

Good shooting,

Steve

Steve, what twist rate and length?

Hard to go wrong with a .270 for mule deer. The 145 grain ELD-X would be an excellent choice that I wouldn't hesitate to try. I've had great luck with Hornady bullets on game. I shoot the 150 grain Nosler Ballistic tips out of my 270 WSM simply because they give me the best accuracy in that gun. I tested the 140 and 150 grain SSTs, 140 accubond, 150 ABLR, and 150 Ballistic Tip. I would use any of those bullets for deer or elk. I'm sure the 130s would work well for deer also but I have not used them personally.
