My suggestion would depend on a couple things, is she strong enough to manipulate the slide of any semi-auto pistol for loading and unloading safely? If not get a revolver. Is she going to have a purse gun or be holstered on her body? If purse gun she need to keep her purse clean of debris that may get in the working parts, or have a purse with a dedicated pocket. Inadvertently an object could push on the mag release and when she needs it she could grab a gun with one bullet only. And if auto pick one with-out a safety, if she trains with a striker fired model and never uses the manual safety, and she draws the gun with the safety switched on because it was flipped in her purse she will likely pull on the trigger and nothing happens, by the time she realizes the mistake it could be too late. If she is not going to shoot the gun for practice every week, go with the revolver. No controls to manipulate other than pull the trigger. Semi autos have one major issue for concealed carry if they are loaded and unloaded repeatedly. If you don't recycle the rounds and you don't shot and replace the rounds, you can destroy a primer by repeatedly working it through the gun. The inertia of the cartridge being picked up and slammed to a stop repeatedly can brake down the priming mix and move it from the anvil causing a miss fire. I read that after 3-4 entry's the round should be put aside for practice time. I am carrying a revolver and if you asked me a year ago I would say never but I just love this little sw 38. It is a discontinued model but it looks similar to this 357. I like the fact it has the full barrel shroud and the grip is long enough to get the pinky finger on it. If she decides on an auto get a striker fired auto with no manual safety lever. I am assuming she is going to carry, if it's just for plinking then whatever she likes.
