Just wanted to update you all on my progress with my DE 338 Edge recently recieved.

So far been out twice with the new gun. First trip to satisfy myself by running the barrel in with 27 shots at 100 M and lots of cleaning.

    Yesterday the fun stuff started.

    Conditions 89 degrees, 29.7 PP, 198 ft alt and 61 % RH.

Wind off the right at 3 o'clock 2-3 mph gusting.

Shooting off bipod with rear bag.

My 340 M swinging steel target was gonna be in a world of hurt ! Info into NF exbal- 5.5 moa up, .25 right- 4 shots dead centre, group average 2 " high of centre.

Next the 415 M target- Info in - 7.5 moa up, .5 right- 4 shots dead centre, 2 in the same hole, group average 1 " high of centre.

    Things were looking good !

Then I turned and looked out to the white steel target staring me out from 700 M away. You know that cheeky look they give you ? Well, I'll show him !!

Taped a ballon to the target so I could see the strike. Info in 16.75 moa up, .75 right. First shot, booooom,, swoooosh....... SMACK !!! DEAD CENTRE MASS in the middle of the 8 " white circle. Loved looking at that big black mark on the plate. Next 2 shots 2 " higher and 2 " left. Last shot I pulled a little high on the edge of circle at 12 o'clock. Group vertical impact point looked about dead on with exbal.

In summary this gun kicks ass !! I never felt like I could miss. All shots would have been fatal clean kills in the vital area.

    So far, very, very good.

Thankyou Shawn for a killer rifle.

God help the deer Down Under !

    AJ-

The load is Rem brass, 92 grn H1000, cci 250 primer, 300 smk 3.775 OAL.

It certainly is in a class of its own for what I have used over my 15 years hunting.

    Take care.

    JWP,

The barrel is a HArt 5.6 sendero taper, 30" plus break ss fluted. I have not yet run over a chrono, but I put in 2800 for the above data and it was really close to dead on. When I made validations exbal came back with estimated velocity of 2830.

    Thankyou

Very close to what Shawn made for me. Mine is in 338 Laupa set up for an overall loaded lenght of 3.9" 30" Sendero tape ABS barrel. I think that the 3.9" loaded lenght will make powder capacity very close with the 338 Edge...

    Slopes,

Plan on getting out in the next month after some more practise. The deer here are loosing their horns at the moment and get hard around March. Maybe a long range meat deer during the off season.

    JWP,

I saw the Lap you had Shawn build and it looked one hell of a rifle. Like the look of the Carbon Fibre Barrel too !

I had the chamber cut on this gun to run the Wildcat 250-265 grn Al tipped bullets at 3.980 OAL and run them out of the wyatt centre feed mag. Just waiting on some new ones from Canada. But with the way this is going may just stick with the sierra for now ?

Shawn sure does build a great gun.

How far have you practised out to with your Lap ?

    Dave,

I dont think I'll tire of having such confidence with my gun.

I can see that I could, if needed ,push the 300 smk quicker, but why bother ? I'll take accuracy over 50 fps anyday.

    Now I'm a beliver !!

    Have a nice day.
