FPS loss per \" of barrel?

I am just wondering what an average FPS loss would be per one inch of barrel length, ie 24" barrel vs. a 20". Thanks!

Re: FPS loss per \" of barrel?

Depends on the cartridge, but I think the old rule of some is something like 20 fps. This can be much more on some of the big, overbore mags though.

I have a 26" Sendero 300 SAUM and a 22" Model 7 300 SAUM; shooting the same factory ammo the difference is as follows:
150 gr Sendero - 3430, Model 7 - 3200
165 gr Sendero - 3250, Model 7 - 3090
180 gr Sendero - 3130, Model 7 - 2970

Hope this helps.
