Wow. What a trip. I'll write up a blurb later but for now. Here's the specs.

Solo boar. Came in alone and was timid. Strayed out of e feeder light. Luckily for his calico coloring and full moon. Was able to see clearly enough for a shot! Through and through double lung shot with a 150gr 300wm. Dropped him in his tracks? Not a drop of blood from the entrance or exit hole. 62 yards.

Also, If anyone is looking for a Cheap no Frills hunt in west texas (north of Abilene) let me know. $150 for 48hrs, 2 pigs. Awesome landowners.

yep... good hog there. nice cutters. bet you were excited when you got up to him and saw how big he was.

what's up with the copyright watermark on your photo? does that mean i can photoshop myself into the pic and tell folks i shot it :D

I honestly was aiming for the neck and figuring I had hit perfectly. But he must have moved or i flinched. But yes the shield kept the entry and exit hole small. Couldn't fit my pinkie finger in either hole through the hide. Caused massive damage to rib cage, broke multiple ribs on both sides.

He was big in the field but had nothing to compare him to as he was alone and the field was just tilled dirt. I didn't do the standard pic that makes him look huge. Just gave my 6ft4in brother the camera and he didn't even knell down.

His cutters were a bit torn up, but being he was alone and given his size I think he is prob a 3year old? Do you agree? What would ya say he weighed. Never took a chest measurement.

Oh as for the watermark, it's a standard thing I do with all my photos. But sure add yourself in. Wish ya would have worked harder to get him out of that sticky mud field tho. Shesh..

spud,
hog killing seems to agree with you. you have that 'look' of death about you.

anyone that sits that long motionless with the Texas wind will be foolish to wear shorts. Plus my white legs would be like moving glowsticks when I walk

djones, after seeing your editing skill, I am never trusting one of your photos again!

Being alone and size are not very diagnostic of age. They can be alone at 8-15 months. I have shot a lot of hogs that were 180-220 lbs that were less than 2 years of age based on tooth wear. Your hog may be fully grown, despite not being huge. The cutters are not terribly diagnostic of age either, different nutrition and genetics affecting their growth rate. I can't say I have seen a 2 year old with cutters like that, however, so I would say he was definitely over 2, but how much over 2 is really hard to say without seeing the rest of the teeth. He could be 5 or 6.
